Sanitary doctors warned Petersburgers who decided to fly to the Olympics in South Korea, about the dangers of viral infections in the region. It is noted that the peninsula is now experiencing a problem with the spread of avian influenza.
"Since November 2017, an outbreak of avian influenza in several duck farms in Gochang (Northern Cholla Province) and Enam (South Cholla Province) has been reported on the territory of the country," Rospotrebnazor said.
It is noted that the highly pathogenic avian H5N6 virus is isolated from the litter of wild birds 90 km south of Seoul, and also on farms south and southeast of Seoul within a radius of 230 to 300 km. Earlier, an outbreak of the H5N6 avian influenza virus in the provinces in the south-west of the country was reported.
As of December 20, 2017, several strains of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N6 have been isolated, no cases have been identified among humans.
Petersburgers are asked not to contact birds, do not visit poultry farms, get a flu shot before flying to South Korea.
Recall that the Olympics in Pyeongchang will be held from 9 to 25 February.
