Why I love being a South African

in south •  7 years ago

People have the wrong impressions of South Africa. Especially abroad. Playing online games I actually realised how delusional ideologies occupy the minds of many foreigners.

First of all, apartheid ended in 1994, although the legacy of apartheid still resonates with millions of South African black people it is over now and we are trying to create a better South Africa for us all. The word apartheid often gets thrown out of proportion whenever a politician has no valid premise and can't really defend his point intelligently. Apartheid is over and we should move on. The spirit of Ubuntu

In South Africa, we don't see race anymore. We see each other as people. We will share a braai (barbeque) together irrespective of your race, gender or language. We, unfortunately, have a few intellectually constipated people that believe they are better than others because they have a different colour skin. Although these people consist of less than 5% of the population of South Africa it might seem like much more.

The majority of us believe in Ubunto, we believe that we all should have equal rights. If the 95% of us can stand work together to eradicate racism and sexism, it will be a good start.

The real problem we have is Mr Jacob Zuma. We need to get rid of this man. He is causing irreversible damage. I wonder where South Africa would have been without Zuma and without corruption. We have such a beautiful country, we have such beautiful people. We are still standing even with all of this turmoil. Just imagine where we would have been without it.

Our landscapes are just as diverse as the people living in South Africa.

Words can't describe the beauty. There is so much more than just crime and poverty. We also have the most beautiful cultures, the most beautiful languages and most of all the most beautiful people.

I envision a South Africa where we all can be happy with one another, living together in peace and harmony. We are the future of this country. I am an Afropolitan and my heart belongs here. I don't care what opportunities there are abroad. I want to create those opportunies here in South Africa for other people.
