The idea of a space elevator has been around for decades starting with Arthur C. Clarke in his book “The Fountains of Paradise.” Many proposals have been drawn but, few have seemed plausible. The technical hurdles to such a scheme are vast. Until recently, materials strong enough to support such an endeavor did not exist. Nano and carbon fibers are leading the way in development and may be the answer to making this project a reality. Fingers crossed!
