The solar system is home to many amazing phenomena that scientists are yet to comprehend fully. From one end to another, each heavenly body reveals its own specific view of the mysteries that fill the universe.

At the center of our solar system is the sun, a huge ball of very hot gases which gives out the light and heat to all the planets. Its gravity is so strong that it makes everything rotate around itself, such as our Earth. The sun's energy brings life to everything, from plants carrying out photosynthesis to the weather patterns on earth.

Moving outward from the sun, we encounter the rocky planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. They are made of rock and metal mostly and they have solid surfaces. Earth happens to be the only planet we have discovered to be suitable for life because of the properly balanced atmosphere, water and temperature.

Beyond the rocky planets lie the gas giants: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These super planets are of hydrogen and helium and they have thick atmospheres and hurricane-like storms. Jupiter at length is known for its Great Red Spot, a vast storm that has been going for a long time.

Nonetheless, the mysteries of the solar system are not exhausted as yet. Moons, asteroids and comets also an important role in the molding of our celestial neighborhood. Moons such as Europa, Jupiter’s moon, with their deep oceans under icy surfaces, could be the place where life exists. Asteroids and comets on the other hand are the fragments of the solar system in its initial stages and give us information about the formation and the evolution of the solar system.

The more the solar system is researched, the more will the scientists find out about unexpected phenomena and unknown secrets. What aim do we have in mind as we probe deeper into the mysteries of outer space? One thing is for sure: the solar system will be the source of inspiration for awe and wonder that will inspire further generations.
