The Trifid Nebula is an H II region located in Sagittarius. It was discovered by Charles Messier on June 5, 1764. Its name means 'divided into three lobes'.

I thought the Trifid Nebula had been discovered by Guillaume Le Gentil in 1750...

Thats fake news

I would not define that as a "fake" news. I just told you what I thought but I did not try to convince anyone.
The wikipedia french page explains that the discover is Guillaume Le Gentil and not Charles Messier...
