In case if you don't know, there are over 1700 accounts involved with draining steemit's reward pool. Right now, things are getting a little out of hand, and something DOES need to be done.
According to @sherlockholmes, his accusation is:
"Randomly scanning the blockchain for suspicious activities, a chain of votes on a seemingly innocent spam comment caught my eye. 19 votes from accounts with random-syllable usernames on a days old comment on a month old post.
Someone's clearly spamming for profit. I really did not expect this to lead to such an extend as it did, though!"

This really shows that something suspicious is going on...But if thats not enough, check out what else he said.
Here are @sherlockholme's findings:
"Observing the activities over the past few days I was able to connect a huge network of more than 1700 accounts involved in this industrially scaled farming operation! And the number is still growing!
It will be impossible and boring to describe how I dug into this chronologically, so I shall describe the situation structurally:
There are hundreds and hundreds of accounts doing exactly what I had witnessed in my "Accusation" above. These accounts transfer their rewards over to a few hub-accounts, these accounts then function as an extraction point for the ill-gotten gains, transferring the accumulated money out of the platform."

This is just crazy, and something really needs to be done about this or it can really screw up steemit, but there is a bot @sadkitten which has been flagging that spamming accounts which is helping keeping it under control, I do believe there are also a few other bots doing the same as well, so hopefully we can end this A.S.A.P.
Resteem this to get the word out and expose these thieves!!

Its a problem and ive basically put a hold on blogging until its sorted as there is too much rewarded spam and too little rewards for bloggers.

I agree, we spend hours writing blog posts and we earn just pennies and then there are spammers who make a few dollars just by making a spam comment.
And in recent days I have heard many a good Steemers complain about spammers and how it is demotivating everyone.

It is, indeed, a huge issue that must be addressed. Fortunately, the community is responding with countermeasures. In the meantime, we ALL have the power to flag spam when it appears on our posts-- the thing about this botnet spam votes is that their weight is so tiny that we can usually remove any rewards and hide the comment with a simple 3-5% weight flag.

@alex-icey, this is a huge issue also the fact that people are doing upvote for upvote which degrades the amount of good content that gains upvotes, there needs to be restrictions put on accounts if they spam or post copy and pasted content.

I'm fairly new to steemit and it's disheartening though not surprising to hear things like this. There will always be people who try and take advantage of a good thing.

Great info, definitely passing it on!
It seems like these past few months have really brought the scammers out of the woodworks. I've been here for about a year and this seems like the worst its been at. Hopefully we see the pendulum swing back this way soon.
