Flagging SPAM Posts on Steemit Can Be Really Discouraging

It seems like today Steemit is attacked by spam bots advertising some Pokemon hacks and selling bots votes, follows and even flagging for Steemit on Steemit:

HOT WORKING!! Pokemon Go Hack Cheats Tool Generator 99999 PokeCoins

SPAM SPAM SPAM Upvote / follow / flags / per 0.01$ , accs: contract price

Like a normal person that does not like to see such SPAM posts on steemit I started flagging them, but I got the feeling I was the only one. After flagging more than 5 posts of the user spamming with the Pokemon hack @pokemongohackz I noticed that his reputation level remained the same, somebody else apparently with a higher reputation flagged one of his many posts and that brought it down a bit.

So, with my not so low reputation, flagging was only just hiding the SPAM post and not doing much in further preventing the user to post more SPAM, this was pretty discouraging for me personally especially when I see that other people apparently don't care much about the SPAM posts and don't flag them. It is really discouraging when you try to do something and there is not much effect, so you essentially waste your voting power for that, power that you can use to actually make a positive effect on Steemit by voting good posts.

I see now why people don't just flag these posts, especially if you are a new user with low reputation... you just can't make a difference. What you only get is the moral satisfaction that you did the right thing and got posts flagged. I also suppose that people, especially new users, are also afraid that if some of these bots start revenge flagging it might essentially have the very opposite effect on their account.

I was really discouraged after spending like 10% of my voting power and seeing absolutely no result as the SPAM just continues... and from the same users that I downvoted earlier today multiple times.

What do you think is the right solution to these problems, if nobody cares and does nothing, then they will just get worse?

I don't like flagging people because some people start stalking you and flagging every post you do, I don't want to have to upvote all my posts to make sure that they are visible.

I suppose that a lot of people are afraid of that, yesterday I got some revenge flagging of my posts.

But if everyone is afraid and not doing anything the situation is only going to get worse...

I also wrote a post about spam, I was tryng to get a small movement going so we can fight spam together. The Daily Downvote: We Need Your Help.

I think most people are far more interested in making money than they are concerned about the platform itself.

Yes I don´t like flagging articles too, I only upvote. -Upvoted :)
