"We Hate Steemit" - Bad Behaviour for Self Profit

in spam •  7 years ago  (edited)

I am writing this because I am expecting Retaliation for my recent custodial activity. I want this to be Publicly Known.

I was visiting the "Introduceyourself" tag to greet and welcome a couple or few new Steemians. Sadly, in the last 7 days, this has never been a quick or easy job because of Spam, Tag abuse and also low quality introductions.

Nevermind... what happened today was this:
I saw a very simple post and provided a greeting with tips to improve his introduction here on Steemit. Another steemian liked my comment and replied. When I returned to the post to read and respond, I see a familiar culprit: @ pilot/ @ wonka

I don't know yet if it is one person or two. But my guess is that it is one account. The game is like this:
@ pilot makes a "Welcome @newperson" and then @ wonka gives a 100% ($0.75) upvote to pilot. They do this to 10 comments per day. THEY DO NOT GIVE UPVOTES TO THE NEW STEEMIAN. They are merely using the guise of being nice in order to SCAM the Reward system and profit from SPAM.

It is very sad really, because it must be a terrible feeling to a new Steemian to see their post at $0.05 at day 6, and here this comment of "Welcome" or "Great job" get's a reward of $0.75 or more. I wonder how many new Steemians have been driven away....OR misguided into their own scammy behaviour because of this account pair!????

It is very sad.

You noticed that I did not put the "@" next to the name of pilot and wonka. It is not my goal to get flagged by them. I don't want to get abused by these scammers. But I will not watch and be silent either.

Please, stand with me!!! I flagged 5 of their comments that were a day or less from payout. They are still valued at $0.40 each or more. Can you help me to flag these posts down to 0 or at least to $0.05 or $0.10. Start with the oldest. you can see which ones I began flagging. I did report this to @steemcleaners, but it may take a few days in order for them to process the report. in the meantime this pair may earn $6, $12, or $18 of STOLEN rewards. Can you help me please, to help make Steemit a better, less scammy place for the new people?????

It's good to know there is good people looking out for the minnows. I am new myself and just figuring out the steemit ecosystem. I haven't seen this behaviour in action as I haven't even done my introduction post yet or spent time on tag. I have wondered how to make more than pennies worth on post and I guess this partly answers my question. Some with more power gift higher upvotes. I was lucky to have that happen on one of my first posts. Good heads up. I'll have a look now and see if I can also help make steemit a fairer space.

Please, your Rep and SteemPower voting power is low, do not join any flagging for this.

You can help us when you see something and report it to me, or to Steemcleaners here: https://steemcleaners.org/abuse-report/

Thank you so much for noticing, Here is a nice upvote to help you along!

Thank you very much public-eye. I will keep track of both SteemPower and yourself in my feed while working to improve my power so that I too can help out the community. Good job.

Sounds like a plan!
2 thumbs up! :-D

I find myself in the introduceyourself tag often greeting and inviting them to join the msp discord, which I hope you are a part of as well. Unfortunately, like you said to often it is very low quality. Then you those like you mention taking advantage of these post too. Glad to know someone is watching out. Thanks for being an active member. Hope to see you around more often!

Thanks. Glad I am not the only one that had perceived this low quality situation.

I am not on discord yet. Not sure if I will join sometime or not. I am in Steemit chat and that works pretty good for my few discourse needs. But I send people to @minnowsupport and Palnet as often as I can! I have gathered that it is quite a good place for minnows!

Hope to see you around as well!
Thx

Oh yeah. Two accounts upvoting each others comments. Scammers.

All it takes is one angry whale to trail these two accounts for a day or two, burry them and their rep, and they will be gone.

I wonder where we can find one of those and how one might aim him at those accounts...

Fed the scammer some flags. Omnomnom.

And in unrelated news: guess who waited for Friday to pass to end her break from posting? :P

@maryjanielanie? ? @laurafloramaud ?? I give up. Who?

You tease. Go read my post. I would very much appreciate your input.

I did a bit of flagging but unfortunately it doesn't do too much because of my low sp. Thanks for keeping an eye out for this.

Let me know if you get any retaliation flags and I will help build you back up!

Thanks, where is the best way to find if someone is flagging you alot? just on steemdb?

steemnow.com type in your name in Username
Will give you the last 20 upvotes(or flags) Also shows your Rep at 49.219 So if it goes to 49.110, you know you been getting flagged. So far, we are all good. Perp probably just hasn't got back on yet. See what storm brews tmw or next day....
thx again!

Awesome! Thanks

Glad you said something about this. I'm still trying to figure everything out and wouldn't have even understood what had happened if you hadn't explained it. I admit, Steemit feels lonely for a social media platform. It is so nice of you to welcome new people. Thank you- and take care.

Yes, it will probably never be quite as Social as Facebook... but then again, Steemit isn't using every drop of our personal lives to profit off of us... so there is that! :)

Glad to help, and very nice to meet you!!!

Dirty little scammy scammersons. Nice job keeping an eye out👊🏻 The community must come together and fight this sort of crap.

That's my battle cry. Spam fighting takes a whole village. Not just one or two village idiots! ;-D

report to steemcleaners broseph

Thanks!
From the post: " I did report this to @steemcleaners, but it may take a few days in order for them to process the report."
And the soon pending rewards were high enough I figured it was worth getting someone on it right away!

haha missed that. sorry

No worries! THanks for stopping by!

I am still figuring Steem out and so new that I have yet to make my Introduction, however, Wow!! so glad you are there looking out for fellow Steemians and all the crooks and spammers..sad bunch they are and hope they caught and removed.

Thanks so much for the support!

And if you ever see something fishy, be sure and drop me a comment so I can look into it!
Thanks

I know that your intentions are good - but I would ask you to consider a couple of things.

  • Steemit's system is permissive of the kind of scammy behavior that you mention - just as self-up-votes are permitted. People who point out this obvious problem are either ignored or persuaded to see such self-up-votes and circular-upvotes as "return on investment".

  • Flagging the rewards of a single offender down to zero will not fix the problem - but will drive antagonistic behavior. Flag wars are real and nobody gains.

  • Lastly it does not usually make economic sense for a Steemit user to use up their voting power to reduce the rewards of another user.

Yes there are problems and thank you for spotting this particular instance. However I do feel that such grievances should be addressed further up the food chain. :c) Good luck.

The thing is.... there is NO official foodchain. As an intentional, unregulated, decentralized platform there is no management to ban or crack down on this officially.

That opens up a job opportunity. ANd I am taking it. If I do a good job, then I believe people will see my value add(every flag I hand out or get others to hand out returns rewards potential to the reward pool), and they will support me with upvotes. IF I do a crappy job, then I will waste my time and give up.

Steemcleaners is another volunteer spam fighting account. Multiple people help with it. The participants can get some minor "pay" or "rewards" for their work, but from a recent direct conversation.... It isn't a lot. It is mostly a labor of love for the good of the platform.

I am fortunate at the moment. A benevolent whale delegated 5,000 SP to me to help me fight spam. If I do a crappy job he will remove that delegation. We will see if I am successful or not.

I came to Steemit through a friend and him introducing me to @sherlockholmes' work. Sadly, sherlock hasn't been around lately. I was impressed with his work and was hoping he could teach me a thing or two. But he seems to have left for the moment. I don't know.

Thanks for your feedback! there are valid concerns. ANd there is the ability for improvements to be made.
(I do have opinions and thoughts about investments and self voting and circle jerks. I am still digesting it all though. I can see some validity in both views.... but I do think we can come to some middle ground. But I am not ready to Post my thesis on it yet.)

The fear of being down voted or attacked is the problem. I agree that, like you, I would not have put the @ to tag the users. But I do think people are scared to down vote or to speak up as these individuals with a lot of power can do a lot of damage to a minnow where every 0.01 counts in our growth.

Thank you for raising this and speaking up, we need more people like you speaking up and protecting the heart of the platform.

Well for the moment I have a 5000 SP delegation. ANd I hope to get more, if I have to lease it myself or if a whale is kind enough to delegate it to me.

So for the moment I can go toe to toe with anyone dishing out $0.25 downvotes. Anything bigger and I pass it on to bigger fish.

If you see anything, please pass it on to me in a comment to one of my old posts. No one will ever see it there and I will see it in my recent Replies. Just don't add the @ next to the name... as I did above.
I will try and take care of it!

Thanks so much for the support! I appreciate it!
Thx
