El 23 de mayo, la anciana de 80 años y con Alzheimer Ada Álvarez, madre del opositor y caricaturista independiente Ilei de Jesús Urrutia Álvarez, fue ingresada en el hospital capitalino Miguel Enríquez (la Benéfica) por una fractura de cadera. Se le hicieron los análisis pertinentes y todos los resultados fueron satisfactorios.
La mañana del 24 de mayo, el médico a cargo le informó que su operación estaba programada para seis días después. A Ilei le pareció mucho tiempo, si bien a la anciana de al lado, también con fractura de cadera, ocho días después aún no la habían operado.
