La heliconia rostrata, conocida también con los nombres comunes de heliconia, pico de tucán o platanillo, es una planta perenne herbácea de la familia heliconiaceae propia de las selvas tropicales y subtropicales de Sudamérica y el Caribe que se destaca por su rápido crecimiento, sus grandes hojas, y su bella y duradera inflorescencia, características que la han convertido en un recurso ornamental muy demandado en los jardines y casas de todo el mundo. Habita en selvas tropicales de Belice, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panamá, Brasil, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Perú, Paraguay, Argentina y Bolivia. En este último país es, junto a la cantuta, una de sus dos flores nacionales.

    saludos, aquí le llamamos platanillo, esta planta ornamental florece en jardines con mucha sombra y constante humedad, son bellas y estan presentes en la mayoría de los arreglos florales exóticos.
