Después que de manera consensuada Jorge Sampaoli dejara la dirección técnica de Argentina, tras su eliminación de Rusia 2018 a manos Francia, quien a la postre resultaría campeón del torneo universal, la AFA informó que el seleccionado argentino aún no tiene la designación de un nuevo Director Técnico para asumir las riendas del conjunto abiceleste.

Se informó de igual manera que se adelantan diligencias para que Pekerman o Alejandro Sabella, antigos DT del conjunto argentino, asuman, uno de ellos, las riendas de la dirección deportiva de la selección nacional en sustitución del exfutbolista Jorge Burruchaga.
