We have many great places to visit and the first on our list is the Tequendamita waterfall. This is the second post on SquareLink's Colombian adventure, and as I mentioned, in support of Witness Cervantes and the Spanish speaking community, we will include bilingual content.

Tequendamita: A wonder close to home

This was not on my original itinerary, but only because I did not realize that where we were staying in La Ceja had such a spectacular location right at hand. This wonderful spot is literally within 15 minutes of where we are staying. In fact, it appears to be a common stop to enjoy this spot after eating at 'Estadero Ricas Arepas' I wrote about in my last blog post.

Esto no estaba en mi itinerario original, pero solo porque no me daba cuenta de que donde estábamos en La Ceja tenía una ubicación tan espectacular a la mano. Este maravilloso lugar está literalmente a 15 minutos de donde nos quedamos. De hecho, parece ser una parada común para disfrutar de este lugar después de comer en 'Estadero Ricas Arepas' sobre el que escribí en mi última publicación de blog.

Tequendamita opened at 10am and there were people waiting to get in and see the sights. I'm not sure what these visitors thought of the big gringo taking pictures of everything and causing the occasional traffic jam in the process.

Tequendamita abrió a las 10 a.m. y había gente esperando para entrar y ver los lugares de interés. No estoy seguro de qué pensaban estos visitantes de que el gran gringo tomara fotos de todo y ocasionara el atasco ocasional en el proceso.

The first thing you notice is the great waterfall coming down from the hills which are surrounded by trees of various types making a rich green setting for the rocks and water of the falls. The trees are interesting because, even though we have many of these types of trees in my country, they are not seen growing side by side in such abundance.

Lo primero que notará es la gran cascada que baja de las colinas que están rodeadas por árboles de varios tipos que crean un entorno verde rico para las rocas y el agua de las cataratas. Los árboles son interesantes porque, a pesar de que tenemos muchos de estos tipos de árboles en mi país, no se ven crecer uno al lado del otro en tal abundancia.

After I could draw my eyes away from the large waterfall itself, I was surprised to see the natural landscaping that had crafted a beautiful park where visitors are able to enjoy various other water features as they spend a quiet afternoon.

Después de apartar los ojos de la gran cascada en sí, me sorprendió ver el paisaje natural que había creado un hermoso parque donde los visitantes pueden disfrutar de otras características acuáticas mientras pasan una tarde tranquila.

From the various spots in the surrounding park, you are able to have this scene for a natural background to enjoy.

Desde los distintos puntos del parque circundante, puede uno disfrutar de esta escena natural.

The large waterfall of Tequendamita feeds several streams that themselves contain smaller mini-waterfalls and white water current.

La gran cascada de Tequendamita alimenta varias corrientes que contienen pequeñas mini cascadas y corrientes de agua blanca.

Sitting beside this smaller waterfall provides a relaxing sound scape and is the perfect spot to sit quietly with a book or just your own thoughts.

Sentado al lado de esta pequeña cascada hay un relajante sonido y es un lugar perfecto para sentarse tranquilamente con un libro o simplemente con sus propios pensamientos.

There are several places for great photos, but be careful as some of the pathways are over rocks that can be a bit slippery when wet. We had no trouble climbing to the higher platforms, but pay attention with younger and elderly visitors.

Hay varios lugares para obtener excelentes fotos, pero tenga cuidado ya que algunos de los caminos están sobre rocas mojadas que pueden estar un poco resbaladizas. No tuvimos problemas para subir a las plataformas más altas, pero prestamos atención a los visitantes más jóvenes y mayores.

After climbing and walking the paths here, you are sure to build up a thirst. Fortunately, there is a great little refreshment stand that features fresh fruit drinks which are a perfect complement to the natural beauty of the falls.

Después de escalar y caminar por los senderos aquí, seguro que tendra sed. Afortunadamente, hay un gran pequeño puesto de refrescos que ofrece bebidas de frutas frescas que son un complemento perfecto para la belleza natural de las cataratas.

With more to do than is possible in a few days, I was hesitant to add an additional unplanned stop to our itinerary. After spending 5 minutes taking in the scenery of Tequendamita falls, I was glad this was an exception. This is the place to visit when you have a couple of hours and can spend time both walking on the paths, but also sitting and enjoying a beauty of nature.

Con más para hacer esto es posible en unos días, dude en agregar una parada adicional no planificada a nuestro itinerario. Después de pasar 5 minutos contemplando el paisaje de las cataratas Tequendamita, me alegré de que fuera una excepción. Este es el lugar para visitar cuando tienes un par de horas y puedes pasar tiempo caminando por los senderos, pero también sentado y disfrutando de la belleza de la naturaleza.

Next on the itinerary for our Colombian adventure is the imposing El Penol, which I have not been to, but is a famous giant rock edifice that is as tall as a skyscraper and can be climbed by ascending a stairway. I will continue with several posts that cover some fun items we are planning to do in Medellin.

El siguiente en el itinerario de nuestra aventura colombiana es el imponente El Peñol, en el que no he estado, pero es un famoso edificio de roca gigante que es tan alto como un rascacielos.
