Hi Steemians,
"Pastorale" from 25 Easy and Progressive Studies, op. 100 No. 3, is a piece composed by the German composer Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmüller (1806-1874).
A Pastorale is a composition inspired in the melodies played or sung by the shepherds in the field. In their origin these pieces were very simple airs played with the bagpipe using a 2/4 or 6-8 measure. But in the classic period, this music should also paint the simplicity of the daily shepherds' customs, besides correctly interpreting all the indications that appear in the score.
At first sight the score shows this written information:
- Andantino
- piano dolce cantabile
Andantino is a tempo marking which determines a speed played a little bit faster than "Andante" (like walking). It means that if you begin to walk, you should not run, and, at the same time, you should maintain a stable speed.
For that reason, the stability and the character of the music determine a good interpretation of the piece. It may help us to imagine a shepherd who is playing a flute under a tree as he looks at his flock of sheep.

Piano dolce cantabile means soft, sweet and sung.
And that's what a try to do with this beautiful and inspired piano piece...

Hola Steemians,
Piano dolce cantabile significa suave, dulce y cantando.
