World Sparrow Day is a day celebrated on March 20 to raise awareness about the dangers of domestic sparrows and then other common birds in the urban environment and their populations.
It is an international initiative in collaboration with Nature Forever Society of India's Eco-Sis Action Foundation (France) and many other national and international organizations from around the world.

The Nature Forever Society was started by Mohammed Dillawar, an Indian conservationist who started helping domestic sparrows in Nashik and was declared an "Environmental Hero" by Time in 2008 for his efforts.
The idea of celebrating World Sparrow Day came up during an informal discussion at the office of the Nature Forever Society.
The idea was to set aside a day for the domestic sparrow to convey the message of conservation of domestic sparrows and other common birds and to celebrate it as a day of celebration to appreciate the beauty of common biodiversity.
The first World Sparrow Day was celebrated in 2010 in different parts of the world. The day was celebrated with various activities and programs like art competitions, public awareness campaigns, sparrow processions as well as interactions with the media.
