Hello Steemian, how are you doing?
I trust you're doing just fine.

Today I want to share some important facts about food with you.
But before we start, let's share some quotes about food.

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” - Virginia Woolf

“People who love to eat are always the best people.” - Julia Child

“The only thing I like better than talking about food is eating.” - John Walters

“We all eat, and it would be a sad waste of opportunity to eat badly.” Anna Thomas

“After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.” - Oscar Wilde

“Food brings people together on many different levels. It’s nourishment of the soul and body; it’s truly love.” - Giada De Laurentiis

Fried eggs can cure a hangover. They're rich in cysteine, an amino acid which helps purge toxins via the liver.

Eggs are a perfect hangover cure. The high level of cysteine, an amino acid, in eggs helps breakdown acetaldehyde, the root cause of hangovers. Essential minerals in eggs also help the body get rid of toxins that build up with binge drinking.

As you're already aware, eggs contain a myriad of essential nutrients, including protein. But did you realise just how rich they are? Each golden yolk houses a range of antioxidants, vitamins A, B12, D, riboflavin, folate and phosphorous, as well as skin-nourishing selenium, blood-enriching iron and Omega 3 and 6 fats, among others.

Eat ice cream for glossy hair. A few scoops can do wonders for your crowning glory due to ice cream's high levels of Vitamin B2.

People may experience slow hair growth because of poor nutrition, which means they are not getting proper vitamins and nutrients from their diet. Eighty-eight percent of hair is composed of protein that is attached by amino acids. One vitamin that aids in hair growth is vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin. This vitamin is part of the eight essential B vitamins that help convert carbohydrates from food into fuel in the body to produce more energy.

According to Medline Plus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, riboflavin is known to increase energy levels, boost functions of the immune system and maintain healthy hair, skin and nails. Riboflavin plays a crucial role in hair growth by activating vitamin B6 and niacin; these two vitamins are also key to hair development, according to Hair Loss Information. Vitamin B6 gives hair melanin and is known to prevent hair loss.

One 100-gram chocolate bar takes approximately 1700 litres of water to make.

It takes an astonishing 450 gallons (1700 liters) of water to make a typical 3.5-ounce (100-gram) chocolate bar. That’s about ten bathtubs of water for one bar of chocolate.

Most of those gallons are consumed by the cocoa plants in the field. As with other products of the land – from coffee to cotton shirts – it’s the water needed for plant growth that typically accounts for the biggest portion of that item’s water footprint.

Nibbling nuts can prevent blood clot. Nuts boost nitric oxide, a compound that relaxes blood vessels and eases blood flow.

There is some evidence that omega-3s may work much the same way as aspirin does to keep blood from clotting.

Vitamin E, which is a blood thinner, is found in nuts such as walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts; vegetable oils such as canola oil, sunflower oil and palm oil; and in lentils such as chickpeas; oats; and wheat.

Monk fruit extract is about 300 times more sweeter than sugar.

Monk fruit, also known as lo han guo, is a small round fruit grown in Southeast Asia. It has been safely used for centuries in Eastern medicine as a cold and digestive aid, and now it is also being used to sweeten foods and beverages. Monk fruit sweetener is created by removing the seeds and skin of the fruit, crushing the fruit, and collecting the juice. The fruit extract, or juice, is around 150-200 times sweeter than sugar and contains zero calories per serving – meaning a very small amount provides a lot of sweetness.

Sniffing a lemon could help you beat asthma

SNIFFING a lemon could help beat asthma, scientists have discovered.

They found that in rats, symptoms vanished after the animals inhaled a chemical that helps give lemons their smell.

Scientists hope it could lead to new treatments for asthma, which affects 5.2 million people in Britain, and costs the NHS Pounds 889 million a year.

The chemical, limonene, "significantly prevented" asthma symptoms in rats, a study at New Technion University in Israel found.

Scientists believe limonene's ability to soak up ozone, which has been linked to asthma, could be key to its beneficial effect.

100% pure orange juice bought in the store is actually 100% artificially flavoured by fragrance companies

It all starts with the stripping of the oxygen. Once the juice is squeezed and stored in gigantic vats, they start removing oxygen.

Why? Because removing oxygen from the juice allows the liquid to keep for up to a year without spoiling. But! Removing that oxygen also removes the natural flavors of oranges. Yeah, it's all backwards.

So in order to have OJ actually taste like oranges, drink companies hire flavor and fragrance companies, the same ones that make perfumes for Dior, to create these "flavor packs" to make juice taste like, well, juice again.

Tea bags were created by accident as customers inaccurately started to use tea samples in the same way as infusers.

The tea bag was invented accidentally when New York merchant Thomas Sullivan sent out tea samples in silk bags and customers put them directly into teapots.

  • During the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907), tea was placed in folded paper to preserve its flavor.
  • The first commercial tea bags were successfully marketed in 1904.
  • Thomas Sullivan was a tea and coffee shop merchant in New York.
  • He shipped tea bags around the world but intended the tea to be taken out of the bags before brewing.
  • Customers found it easier to leave the tea in the porous bags.
