So, we decided to take the kids out for a day in the beach. We decided this time, to take them to the town of Lobo in Batangas, approximately 70kms away from us, but will have to drive through a mountain pass aptly called Bitukang Manok (Chicken Intestines). Thankfully, no one puked. lol
I cooked some Chicken Adobo the night before. Wife and I woke up at 5pm to cook rice, fry some hotdogs, and pack up some stuff. Kids were finally loaded in the van after an hour and half and we reached the small coastal town at 9am. I didn't expect the waves to be huge, because I took a motorcycle ride to do an ocular on the area a few weeks ago, and it was calm. Good thing is they have a pool so the kids still enjoyed nonetheless.
Watching Zepp staring at and playing with the waves reminded me of the FB post by Jason Hague. It never fails to give me the feels. titled A Reflection of Aching Joy. Here's an excerpt.
What do the waves mean, son of mine?
I watch you play tag
With those frigid foam daydreams
As they grow and progress to your toes,
And for an instant, I see them—
Sandcastle Visions
of a typical future.
The kind with graduations
and nuptuals and…
simple conversation about summertime.
But the wave retreats… Recedes… Regresses…
And again your voice is lost in recesses
Of silent staring at meaningless crashes
Of water upon on the sand.
Here's some pics.
With his siblings, Kirsten, our eldest, and Vedder, our youngest.
Enjoying the waves
You’ll never sink this boat! … Come on! You call this a storm? … Blow, you son-of-a-bitch! Blow! It’s time for a showdown! You and me. I’m right here. Come and get me! You’ll never sink this boat!
What do the waves mean, son of mine? These swells of salty outrage
