I Remember rushing home from work with my mum and running off the bus and down the street to get in the house to turn the TV on just as the Spider-Man cartoon was about to start, I must have been about 5 so we are talking 1977. Subsequently I have been a fan ever since.
In Marvels Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker is a superhero-in-training. He operates in more compact spaces, shooting out his web in small targeted bursts.
Spider-Man is played by Tom Holland. A 21 year old English Actor / Dancer, his professional career started when he won the role of Billy Elliot in the West End. He did a lot of his own stunts in the new movie which is commendable. Tom has also been added to the Guinness book of records as the youngest Actor to play a Super Hero ever.
He plays a 15 year old Peter Parker full of energy and enthusiasm. Peters antics have got him onto Youtube and this has managed to win him the attention of Tony Stark / Iron Man (Robert Downey Junior) who sends Happy Hogan (played by John Favreau) to be Peters nanny so to speak, to keep an eye on him for Stark.
Spider-Mans suit turns out to be Stark Technology which gives for an interesting twist and helps to weave even more of Spider-Man into the Avengers Universe.
Jacob Batalon plays Ned - Peters best friend and he is such a great character - he's pretty shocked when he first realises that his room mate is the Spider-Man, however his excitement for his friends new found powers is funny to watch.
Michael Keaton plays The Vulture / Adrian Toomes, he's a disgruntled city contractor whos been selling, stolen alien weapons on the black market. He ends up with a great winged metal flying suit. Keaton delivers all the sinister personality you could expect and wish for in such a role, providing the character with a great twist, especially when he shows up when least expected.
The movie is highly enjoyable and full of energy and comes in at 2hrs 13 min, and is well worth the watch. But we all know that Peter Parker was bitten by a Spider explaining how he gained his powers. Having Stark Tech as his Suit does leave you wondering if Spider-Man actually has any of his own powers or is it just all Stark Tech. Hopefully as the ending of the movie, leaves you in no doubt that this is the opening for the next adventure in the franchise, we will find out in time.
