Howdy y’all! Lately I have been pretty overwhelmed with school and work. But hey, I’m due time it’ll all pay off! Anyways, a couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to do spend some time off the grid, out in the middle of the desert! Pretty awesome to live right in the middle of one of the most diverse desert habitats. So we are presently doing a pilot study on spider diversity in the Chihuahuan Desert. Believe it or not, spiders are very important to habitat maintenance. For humans as well of other plants and animals. Majority of people hate spiders. However, they are a key predator species that play a vital role in ecosystem productivity. They keep all the other creepy crawlers under control, including other species of spiders. Anyways, these are a few of my favorites!
Red Jumping Spider Phidippus johnsoni
Yellow Garden Agriope Argiope aurantia
Banded Garden Spider Agriope triasciata
Green Lynx Peucetia viridans
