The victim

I was walking through knee-high grass when a sudden movement caught my eye and I saw the web with a leftover grasshopper exoskeleton inside. The movement was the spider running to hide. I never saw the spider but looking the size of the web and the size of the grasshopper, I strongly suspect that it was an Orb Web Weaver spider such as this one that I photographed in my garden about a year ago.

As you can see, they happily eat large insects. Don't think that they have it all own way though: a few days after I took the second picture, the web was smashed and the spider disappeared, probably taken by a bird. It's always a case of eat and be eaten in this world

Cool body shape, i found an all yellow one with a similar body shape a while back, does this one make a zig zag in the middle of the web?

Yes, the stabilimentum. I read something interesting about how it's also used to fool birds

Yes, poor grasshopper out of luck. Probably not there jumped.
The spider looks so angry. But the birds were very hungry, so they had lunch with a spide

It's a fend for yourself world, unless your a democrat... :_)

You are lucky to see it!
What a strange spider!

Definitely different. I find spiders fascinating At one time I had a dozen black tarantulas on me at once. Took a pic but can't find it now.
