The epistle to the Ephesians teaches us about the opposition between the concupiscence and the spirit: "And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.", Ephesians 5:18.
Concupiscence is the disorderly desires directed towards the apparent goods, concupiscence is what binds man to error. In the bible concupiscence is also called "evil inclination" or "lust": "For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world.", 1 John 2:16.
The spirit, on the other hand, is the inner teacher, it is the divine substance imprinted in the heart of man, wisdom. And it is this spirit that directs us not towards the things of the world like lust, gluttony, greed; but yes to the search for the immaterial truths that base the existence of the world, the visible comes from the invisible. Or in other words, sensible objects have their origin in immaterial and eternal objects: "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen being understood from what has been made", Romans 1:20.
Only those who serve the spirit enter the Kingdom of God and receive eternal life: "For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person - such a person is an idolater - has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with your empty words, for because of such things God´s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord", Ephesians 5:5-9.
