The spiritual life of man begins with constancy, this virtue is one of the most important spiritual gifts of the holy spirit. "Constancy is power", the bible explains so: "For you have need of constancy, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised", Hebrews 10:36; also: "But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisions, bringing you before kings and governors for My name's sake. It will lead to an opportunity for you testimony. So make up your minds not to prepare beforehand to defends yourselves; for I will give you utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute. But you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death, and you will be hated by all because of My name. Yet not a hair of your head will perish. By your constancy you will gain your lifes." Luke 21:12-19.

Constancy means firmness, permanence, endurance, steadiness. Is one of the seven gifts of the holy spirit, constancy is generally known as spiritual gift of fear of the lord, or fear of God. Thomas Aquinas classifies it as a gift of the will along with mercy, righteousness, continuous improvement (spiritual gift of fortitude), because these gifts are before Gnosis (receiving the holy spirit).
God's word bears fruit through constancy, the word of God is sterile without constancy, as explains in the parable of the sower:
"This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the Word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasure, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by constancy produce a crop." Luke 8:11-15.
