Jesus and the spiritual detachment: This poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. Mark 12:43

The gospel of Mark tells how Jesus, after his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, began to teach in the temple. And in that sacred place, Lord Jesus taught about the need for spiritual detachment and gave as an example a widow who gave the little she had to live on as an offering.
There were many rich people, the gospel relates, but they only gave what they had left over; what useful is a religiosity of appearances? Jesus asked himself.
The Kingdom of God, the domain or empire of divine perfections, is a commitment and a demand of the heart to change everything that prevents man's spiritual growth. Blessedness is not a promise for those who live from the image they give to others, simply giving what is left over to the temple does not lead man to God.
With these words Jesus gave as an example that widow who gave what she had to live on as an offering to God:
"Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ´Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on´" Mark 12:41-44.
With this example Jesus explained, as in the sapiential books, that men must live attentively to their own thoughts, and avoid selfishness and greed. The true followers of Jesus are those who know how to share with generosity and magnanimity what they possess, because ultimately everything belongs to God and men are only passing through this life. Love is a bond of union, and those who express that love like the widow who made the offering, are called to participate in that eternal kingdom with the Lord.
