Jesus teaches us that Life is more important than the Law. The Pharisees who were strict followers of the Law of Moses, find Jesus' disciples violating the third commandment: "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work", Exodus 20:8
Jesus in the gospel gives us an example that he did not come to abolish the law but to perfect it, Jesus is the life: "Jesus answered, ´I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me´", John 14:6.
The law of Moses in the time of Jesus had become a heavy burden, with which the priests oppressed the people, the law was so oppressive that satisfying hunger on Saturday could be a transgression:
"One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. The pharisees said to him, ´Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?´
He answered, ´Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consacrated bread, which is lawful only for priest to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.´
Then he said to them, ´The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.´", Mark 2:23-27.
The law cannot be interpreted to such an extent that it opposes common sense, or to the practical sense of things that is why Jesus responds: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath".
Jesus is the "son of man", Jesus according to the gospel of Mark is the Lord of the Sabbath. The title that Jesus uses as the son of man is a term also used by the prophet Daniel, Jesus is the personification of the mercy, of the piety, of the goodness of God.
