My 4th child was named after the one eyed Norse god of the Aesir14305427_10157486568185253_1989483082660279377_o.jpg. God of art, war and knowledge. Father of Thor, husband of Frigg. In Holland, this name is illegal. In ancient times, it was frowned upon to name your child after the god of gods. It was a sign of arrogance, and haughtiness. In these modern days, we have the freedom to name our child, Odin!
To invoke the god Odin every day, may have came with a price! Our beautiful boy was born with red hair and bright blue eyes, a 10 and a half pound boy at birth. A week early. Odin was born via c-sectio , as all my babies are big and there have been conplications at birth. My pregnancy was especially ubconfortable with Odin. At 8 months he got his foot stuck in my lower ribs, which ended up detaching from my body. It is true what they say ; be careful stretching while pregnant. All i did was reach my arms up and SNAP broken rib.
Odin was born a healthy boy, strong and with a good latch. He was especially content, and slept through the night almost right away. On the eve of his 6th week, he was very unsettled. Around 3 in the morning, we heard loud popping coming from our bathroom next to his room. The ceilling was on fire, and we had to get our children out of the house. My husband is athiest ; i took this ad a sign to do regular blots to the god odin, for if i am to invoke his name every day, it is not to be taken lightly. We must live in a manner that is true to the old norse ways, we must raise our Odin to his full potential.
Being the youngest of 4 children so close in age is different. Or perhaps, being named Odin is different. He is content and happy almost all the time, expect of course, when it comes to war.when our Odin has his eye on a target (sibling or equally sized child) there is no stopping him. He comes like a storm, with his mind set to destroy. We do not fuel this energy, it is just part of his fiery personality.
Our Odin is a joy, and maybe these things are all coincidence, or perhaps it was all woven in cloth ubder the tree of Yggdrasil. Maybe we wouldnt nane another child after a god, or perhaps it is the very fruit of life. Keeping things interesting. Someday in the s.c.a. my Odin will join my husband and i, and our other chikdren in the shield wall ; coming at his foes with the fury of 10 men, and I will sit around a fire telling the stories of his eventful first year ;) and you will choose what to believe.
