While I'm thinking about it, I had this very strange dream the other night. Needless to say, with my strong beliefs in dreams and their meanings, I fear this portents something horrible.
The Dream
I found myself in my friend's office, as often the case while I'm hanging out at his place. The issue, he wasn't there. His network rack was running at full power, though; a HP DL360 G5, a Supermicro of some sort (I'm forgetting the model at the moment), and the PowerEdge T300 file server at the bottom. The Ubiquiti networking equipment was also there, running very nicely. Oddly enough, the LED light strip that iluminates the rack was set to red (it's Philips Hue). That didn't really surprise me at all, for sometimes when we're goofing on the computer, watching a video, or what not, my friend will change the color of it at random.
I turned around, and to my horror, discovered someone that I thought I knew, or at least I think I know this guy, sitting in his chair! However, said guy was not the fat, dirty, hunched-over looking man with the slimy hands that I see at my volunteering sessions every week. He looked long dead, rather like a lich appearing out of the shadows.
"What are you doing here?", I asked. The thing turned around, skin shriveled, clothing tattered. I also detected a weird black aura around it, but tried to ignore it, as best I could. "you're friends aren't here," it finally replied. After a moment, I recognize that voice, that deep, raspy voice. It was definitely the voice of my fellow volunteer, but why he'd be in this condition in my subconscious ... still unknown. After a second ... The phone rang. device is a Sangoma model 300 (I've ironically never yet heard it ring in real life). The lich proceeded to pick up the receiver. "Hello?", he said. Then I heard a brief bout of static on the other end of the line. "Who the hell are you?" came from the other end of the line, though the static was distorting the call so much, that I was unable to decipher the voice. It dropped a moment later. No wonder, for the device's plastic covering began to discintegrate under the creaturtouch. I awoke after that, just wondering what the hell was going on.
Background
While many people may or may not consider the content of dreams relevant to everyday life, I certainly do. Here's why. I, if you are unaware, am a deep diver when it comes to the supernatural; I believe that there are other worlds all around us, and said worlds can influence Mother Earth, the world we live in. Examples are the Fae, the angels, the devils/demons, elementals, and so on. Each has their place among the vastness of the cosmos, and also, if one actually looks beyond what their physical eyes can decipher, they can get a glimpse of the otherworldly and its beings. Dreams, for me, are manifestations of that other world, so, like I said. I found myself in my friends office, right? That wasn't really his office, but a mock of it set up in one of the other realms; in this instance, probably belonging to the Unseelie fae, the particularly evil creatures of the Fae abode. If you know your Irish, Welsh, and Scottish legends, you'll know exactly what I'm referring to.
My Interpretation Of The Dream
This dream can probably be though of in several different lights. I tend to think of it as a possible situation that's not happened yet. From what I understand of the guy I volunteer with, he's not the nicest of men, and he only volunteers at all because the person he lives with wants him out of the house sometimes during the week; she's told me it's like pulling teeth sometimes to get him out the door. Why he showed up as a lich, that's yet unknown; both me as well as my two friends who live in the apartment, love the Dungeons and dragons role-playing game, so could have been from that. Lichs, in the world of DnD, seem more powerful as undead than they were as living forms, i've noticed, throughout multiple novels I've partaken in reading. There's fantasy, but then there's the rest of the cosmos, like I mentioned in the proceeding paragraph, which heralds possible nastiness for my group, if this second interpretation is correct.
That being, this guy who showed up will do anything to get any of us alone with him, or at least he'd try to, if he could, and if the woman who took him in would allow him to, which, of course, she wouldn't. For some reason, he has a particular dislike for my very close friend, saying, "he's just okay, but I really don't like him", in one of our conversations. This man is actually stronger, spiritually, than even my friend is, and my friend, as am I, is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to dealing with demons and other sorts of creatures. We're rather formitable; I could tell you lots of stories, but eeventually. Right now, I digress. I think this guy'd actually try to extend his dislike from the spiritual (he's already sent some very strange beings after us in the otherworldly realms) right into the physical, and at the moment, it's up to me to ensure that doesn't happen. It's a lot simpler to fix a spiritual break in a group, I've noticed. I could use some comments from other practitioners, priests, priestesses, and so on; would be interesting to get some more thoughts on this.
