QUOTE OF THE DAY - Paracelsus on health and knowledge - The true meaning of "doctor"

in spirituality •  8 years ago  (edited)

"The universities do not teach all things ... so a doctor must seek out old wives, gypsies, sorcerers, wandering tribes, old robbers, and such outlaws and take lessons from them. A doctor must be a traveler . . . Knowledge is experience."

~ Paracelsus

A university degree doesnt necessarily make one a doctor. The origin of the word doctor was to denote one who teaches, so you see, anyone can be a doctor in the true sense of the word. It wasnt until hundreds of years later in the 1700s that it was made formal for masters in the medical field.

With love,
Doc

There exists no badge more valuable than the experience of gaining wisdom. Thank you for spreading your positive vibrations.

Paracelsus seems to have been a very practical philosopher. I am no doctor but do know that only university education got me nowhere in my chosen profession of engineering either. Thanks for sharing this nugget of wisdom. Upvoted and followed.

I am mostly into wildlife photography and travel blogs, I would be honored if you check my latest blogs when you have time. I have posted the first of my tiger pictures with a story of that encounter. Your comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

In the beginning, the sorcerers were the doctors! It took them far longer to evolve into real healers than for engineers, artists, and mathematicians to mature. We're fortunate they finally made it!

Thank you for your information I vote you
