50 DAYS TO UNDERSTANDING THE END-TIMES MORE ACCURATELY - DAY 46 : DRUNKENESS - AUDIO & VIDEO

in spirituality •  7 years ago

This is DAY FORTY SIX of the daily devotional.

I am releasing a 50 day daily devotional about the end-times as revealed in Scripture. Along with the text, I will be providing a video where I cover the text of the day, and @verbal-d will be providing an audio version of it. That way, whether you want to read, watch, or listen, you'll be able to enjoy this study as you wish.

The plan is to release this devotional over the next 50 consecutive days, but life may "get in the way." We will do our best, but please be patient with me if I fall behind.

DAY 46 : DRUNKENESS

“But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;” (Matthew 24:48-49)

In this passage we see that the servant who grows tired of waiting for his Lord’s return will turn on his fellow servants and begin to “drink with the drunken.” There is a call for holiness and sobriety which the Lord has given to believers, and I believe that this response to concluding that the “lord delayeth his coming” is tragic. After all, the passage continues:

“The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 24:50-51)

These “evil servants” eventually proved themselves to be tares that the enemy had sown among the wheat.

“The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 13:38-43)

Those “that offend” and “do iniquity” (live a lifestyle of sin) shall be cast into the “furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” The message here is the same as the one in Matthew 24:50-51. How is it that these ones who appeared to be believers wind up becoming drunkards and hating the children of God? As it was in the days of Noah and in the days of Lot, “Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” (Luke 17:30).

Both Noah and Lot were preserved from the actual wrath of God, yet we see a common trend after their preservation. We see that “…Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent” (Genesis 9:20-21). Lot’s daughters conspired to make “their father drink wine” (Genesis 19:34) and were able to convince him to do so two days in a row, and then, once Lot was drunk they took turns laying with him and each became pregnant. So far as Scripture tells us, this was a one-time event for Noah and a two days in a row event for Lot, so obviously they were not overtaken by a lifestyle of such sin, but their sin did still have lasting consequences.

Since pretribulationists have created “The Tribulation” and have taught that this entire period is God’s wrath, how will those being subjected to what they believe is actually God’s wrath behave? Even those preserved from the real wrath of God (Noah & Lot) momentarily gave in to the sin of drunkenness, so how much more so will those who are convinced that they are being judged by God’s wrath, and that the Bible was not true after all?

Point: The Bible is clear about the decisions some will make, including drunkenness, when they believe that Jesus isn’t coming “on time”.

CLOSER

If anyone is really interested, I did post the entire volume through an alt account over a year ago. I did so as an experiment to see how hard it would be for a new user to get noticed on steemit, so I didn't let anyone know that I was doing it. You can click here to a post that has links to the entire 50 days of this devotional if you really want to read ahead. That information has always been available there since I first posted it. It is not the purpose of this series to just copy all of my previous work, but instead to transform it into some new outlets by releasing it in an audio and video format, to broaden the reach that this work has.

Again, though I will certainly never claim to know it all, I do believe that many are being lead astray by some popular beliefs. I hope that this project will be able to help many others understand the end-times more accurately. Thanks!

Hey @papa-pepper glad to see you getting into Eschatology. Not many pastors want to wade into this area. I went to the bible college I went to because it was one of the few places that dared to be anything other than a pan-Millenialist (that's someone who doesn't care about bible prophecy but believes everything will pan out in the end LOL). Revelation is one of my favorite books in the Bible.

Since pretribulationists have created “The Tribulation” and have taught that this entire period is God’s wrath, how will those being subjected to what they believe is actually God’s wrath behave?

The tribulation and God's wrath are two distinct and different events. Dispensationalists have conflated them into one 7 year period. They have not rightly divided and discerned the scriptures.

I'm afraid that most pre-tribbers are going to be deceived and very confused in the end times. They are already deceived and the deception is going to escalate. I sometimes wonder how many of them will inadvertently take the mark of the beast?

One of the biggest problems, if not the biggest is that very few people read the bible cover to cover every single year. 15 minutes of reading a day is all that it takes to read it in one year.

I don't know where people get the idea that they will not be persecuted during the end times? Christians are going to be hunted down for refusing to worship the beast - they will be tortured, imprisoned and killed. If they are not prepared for these events in advance they are far more likely to fall to pieces when they should be ready to stand up and take whatever punishment comes their way (the pain will only be temporary, a few years at most).

Jesus, the apostles, Job, Daniel, Elijah (and almost any biblical saint you care to mention) were persecuted and so have many other believers since. Yet somehow, many people think that they are different and will avoid persecution? it's a lie from the devil himself and it was spread by Darby & Schofield.

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12

It says ALL shall be persecuted. It doesn't all (expect for dispensationalists). If you aren't being persecuted you probably aren't living Godly. No offence intended, that's what the bible says.

This movie debunks the pre-tribulation rapture myth. If you haven't seen it, or are confused about the timing of the rapture this is a must see video that will clear up the confusion.

Most christians still dont believe that they will face persecution, they have this thinking, that only non-christians face persecution. All true christians will face persecution, even Jesus Christ said it - Matthew 10:22,23. And like you said, "if you are not being persecuted, you probably are not living a godly life".

I used to try to figure out @steemtruth which position does the best justice to scriptures and have concluded that the one that best fits is Preterism. I found 22 statements in the NT to the effect that Jesus and his apostles all expected him to return in their lifetime. If they were correct (and who's going to say Jesus was mistaken?) then we need to understand HOW he returned, wouldn't you think?

I’m always watching and looking for signs of His return...

Moar like this!

This is really good and I think if I read this everyday it will surely add some value to my life but papa can you talk about hope, repentance and charity

I will share a quick comment on repentance if that's ok? The word repent has been widely misinterpreted.

Repent has two meanings

  1. Remorse, to be sorry
  2. Change of mind or turn around

You will not find the words 'repent of sin' mentioned anywhere in the bible. You will find the word repent many times but not repent of sin.

God repented more than any other individual in the KJV bible (35 times). What did God need to repent for if it means to repent from sin? Did God need to repent and be saved?

These are very logical questions to ask!

Repent does not mean to stop sinning or turn from sin.

False teachers have added 'of sin' to the end of 'repent' - but 'repent of sin' is not found once in the bible.

In the context of salvation - repent means to turn from unbelief to belief i.e change your mind. It could be argued that it has the double meaning of also being remorseful/sorry for being a sinner. But the core meaning is to repent from unbelief to belief and when you do that you are saved.

If people want to believe that it means 'repent of sin' they need to explain why God repented more than anyone else in the bible? They also need to explain why 'repent of sin' is not found in the bible?

Thank you
