                                   Christianity

Wisdom describes an Aspect of God it is a theological concept. The concept is Being of the World (Secular) vs. Being of God (Godly wisdom) Wisdom is one of the seven Holy Gifts.

The Holy Gifts are: 1.) Wisdom 2.) Understanding 3.) Counsel (Right Judgment) 4.) Fortitude (courage) 5.) Knowledge 6.) Pety (Reverence) and 7.) Fear of the Lord wander and awe.

Wisdom is having the ability and the capacity to love spiritual things more than things of the world such as, material objects, money, fame, and vanity. It means the desire to understand God and it is the theological virtue of Faith.

It is a deep knowing and understanding that we live as followers of Christ. A person with wisdom and understanding is not confused by the conflicting messages in our culture about the Christian way to live.

                                 Native american

"Among our ancestors there were some values that were held very high among them humility, compassion, courage and generosity but all values lead us to the one we considered the greatest wisdom." (Joseph M Marshall III, The Lakota Way)

Wisdom always takes the path of reason
A wise Person never speaks before immersing himself or herself in a long and thoughtful moment
Wisdom is the most effective antidote to fear and the absence of reason
The wisest man or woman is the most humble.

In Native American Cultures God is known as The Great Spirit. The Great Spirit reveals himself through nature. They believe that people must have generosity in their hearts and that all living things in the world are equal even an ant. We are all ants to the Great Spirit. Native Americans respect Mother Earth and understand that the earth does not belong to humans (the two legged ones) but that humans belong to the earth. Spirituality is interconnected and there is symbolism in animals. "We are to respect all living things, the four legged and the winged ones and live in Sacred Harmony. The Great Spirit gave us a responsibility as Guardians of the Earth." (Wisdom Keepers)

                                                                                                                       Buddahism

The Five Wisdoms of Buddhism. The five wisdoms of Buddahism are five kinds of wisdom that happens when the mind is pure from the five disturbing emotions. The emotions are anger, jealousy, pride, attachment and ignorance. The Five Wisdoms attained are, 1.) The bare non-conceptualizing awareness" 2.) "Mirror like awareness" 3.) "Awareness of Sameness" 4.) "Investigative Awareness" and 5.) "Accomplishing Activities" The Buddhist scriptures on wisdom teach that a man who has acquired wisdom will be endowed in good bodily conduct, good verbal conduct and good mental conduct. Buddhism is not thought of as a religion but a philosophy because it does not involve a God or Gods. The name "Buddha" means the "Awakened one"

pretty soul homework: Look up, What are the sutras? and what are the 4 noble truths?

                                                                                                                        Hinduism

Wisdom in Hinduism is considered a state of mind and soul. The mind in soul according to Hinduism is when a person achieves Moksha (emotional freedom and liberation) Moksha is one of the four aspects/goals of human life. The Four aspects and Goals of Human Life are: 1.) Moksha 2.) Dharma 3.) Artha and 4.) Kama

The state of mind and soul when one achieves Moksha means they have acquired wisdom through emancipation, liberation and release (state of suffering). According to Hindu epistemology moksha refers to freedom from ignorance, self- realization and self- knowledge. It is the freedom from the cycle of death and rebirth.

Moksha: emancipation, liberation, release (state of suffering)
Dharma: virtuous, proper, moral life
Artha: material prosperity, income security, means of life
Kama: pleasure, sensuality, emotional fulfillment
Confucianism

"A wise man never tells of his wisdom" is a belief in understanding in Wisdom. One can understand Wisdom through three methods. 1.) Reflection (the noblest way) 2.) Imitation (the easiest way) 3.) Experience (the bitterest way)

                                                                                                                         Taoism

Wisdom is construed as adherence to the Three Treasures. There are three treasures in Taoism. The three treasures are: 1.) Charity 2.) Simplicity 3.) Humility In addition to the three treasures Taoism also believes that achieving Intelligence, Wisdom, Strength and Power can be achieved through:

Knowing others is Intelligence.
Knowing yourself is Wisdom
Mastering yourself is Strength
Mastering yourself is Power

                                                                                                                         Islam

Islam views Wisdom as a Gift. In Islam Wisdom is deemed one of the greatest gifts humankind can enjoy. Below is a scripture on wisdom in the holy ancient religious text .

"He gives wisdom to whom he wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good and none will remember except those of understanding." Qur'an, Sura 2

                                                                                                                        Judaism

Wisdom is regarded as one of the highest virtues. The word "Wisdom" is mentioned 222 times in the Hebrew Bible. In Proverbs and Psalms there are many scriptures that urge readers to increase wisdom. Wisdom is considered and regarded as one of the highest virtues among the Israelites along with "Kindness" and "Justice."
