How to Succeed in a Bear Market? I Don't Know, but Splinterlands Team Does!

If you play Steem Monsters, or if you simply collect their cards, packs, or hodl their tokens, I'm sure you know what happened within the last 24 hours.

Others may have read posts about it, but not sure if they understand exactly what it is about.

To play Steem Monsters (a.k.a. Splinterlands), you need a collection of cards. The better your collection, the more chances you have to reach higher levels in the game, but a great collection of cards without understanding game strategies won't get you far either.

There are or were a few series of cards in the game, each bringing different sets of cards or bonuses. And these series of cards, or the cards they include are limited to a certain number, after which no other like that will ever be distributed or sold, except on the secondary market, by collectors and players.

These series of cards can be:

  • sold as packs (5 cards each)
  • sold as essence orbs (5 cards each)
  • distributed as reward edition cards (each card has a hard cap; once reached, the card will no longer be distributed as a reward and its place in the edition will be replaced with another card)

All of them are limited, after which they can only be purchased from existing players (collectors).

Until now, a few reward cards went out of circulation (4 of them, as far as I know), and two series of packs, which were sold one after the other: alpha packs (a total of 300,000) and beta packs (a total of 900,000).

The beta packs just sold out, after a little over a year from the time they were put for sale.

900,000 packs at $2 each, that's 1.8 million US dollars! Maybe that's not fantastic for the gaming industry, but for crypto gaming in a bear market, I think they did great!

In fact, compared to STEEM or bitcoin, they were a much better investment in the bear market. Here's what has been happening with the market cap of Splinterlands since May this year:

And they were doing well before that, this was just the explosion at the end.

Splinterlands is an awesome game (no everyone likes this type of game obviously), but as you can see it has been great for investors as well. Other than that, being consistent in delivering on their promises and people believing in them, maybe that's the recipe for success in a bear market?

Easier said than done, but they have done it.

What is in there for us after the Beta packs sold out? As the screen capture above entices us, there are new "Untamed" packs on their way. The interesting part about them is that one could play the game just by using them, AND they will be complementary to existing beta packs.

The game is awesome, and convinced me to invest $1432 (up to date). I'm playing everyday, getting anxious about each daily reward. Overall, I'm probably not on profit as I sold many cards and bought STEEM when STEEM price was really high, but the game experience is bringing unmeasurable fun!

This is precious! Often people get turned off when they lose money or they start screaming scam. I haven't heard that about Steem Monsters, but maybe I haven't listened enough.

That's why I love that you are still having fun even if you are not in profit. And I met you on the field a couple of times, you still have a nice collection, from what I remember from some of the matches! ;)
