Splitting California into 3 states, an initiative funded by California venture capitalist Tim Draper was certified for the statewide ballot in November this year. If it wins, would break California and create three states out of it, namely:
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA:
running from Santa Cruz north and including the Bay Area;
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA:
running roughly from Fresno through the Inland Empire and down to San Diego
CALIFORNIA:
encompassing everything along the coast from Monterey to Los Angeles County.
While the Draper led group behind were able to submit over 300,000 petition signatures to secure a spot in the midterms, it is not evident so far if there really is a groundswell of popular support to the initiative.
Little drips of information going for and against the initiative have started to surface. A few enterprising individuals have started tee shirt designs for and against and you can find in Amazon.

Citizens for Cal3’s goal is to make the government more responsive and responsible to its constituents but tremendous challenges lie ahead if it wins. For starters, building and recreating individual government bureaucracies is going to be a potential nightmare.
There is also the national hurdle that it has to overcome. Congress would need to give its approval as required by law and for sure it’s not going to be a walk in the park in the matter of the president giving his signature.
And the biggest of what’s looming ahead and could mean potential problem for all parties concerned is how to share the state’s supply of critical natural resource-water.
Currently, water comes from the north then supplied to the high water demanding food granaries of central California and down to the highly urbanized municipalities, cities and counties of the south.
These and many more issues, pros and cons, will continue to bubble up to the surface as the November ballot comes close.
What do you think? Will the perceived benefit worth the trouble necessary to effect the change?
