The blockchain has changed the way we look at everything actually. It's not just economic, transactions, storing, etc. Everything. In my frustration of recent results for the team I support, I, therefore, start thinking outside of the box. Something that I could see it be build on the Steem Blockchain using SMT's.
Blockchain and Sports Industry
A modern day sports clubs work as a company. You have owners, employees, and a huge community that uses/support this company. Even though there are millions of fans supporting these sports clubs, not much influence do they have. We can pay 100 £ pounds, trust they would be spent wisely, and just cross fingers. We are often left in frustration as we feel we have no power, no control of what is happening, but still, we support with millions of pounds/dollars/euros pr. year. Blockchain, more precise SMT's would be able to change this. A decentralized sports club in the way, that most of the decision making lies in the hand of the people, and not a staff, manager or owner.
This following post will use a football team as an example. In this example the more of this token you have, the more power, but there should be set a cap on how much power you can have, ensuring that one retard doesn't control the whole club. Just as a system that should prevent fans from another club to intervene. Let's first look at the opportunities in the transfer market.
Twice a year it's possible for a football team to either buy or sell players. Fans are often let down as the club doesn't want to pay the price the selling club wants, or let down as they didn't agree with the bought player.
Let asses the first problem.: A club is on the lookout for a striker. As the club has users from all over the world, the userbase also function as one scout. Users will create a post where they argue why this striker should be bought. If people agree they can vote if people don't agree they can flag. The three best options are then selected by popularity, where another round of voting begins. When the "best" option has been chosen, the bid for the player will either be bought solely by the "payout" or it will support the buy.
Another example of where the Blockchain could be used, is in the selection of the line-up. This is a soft spot. People often disagree with the selection made for the match. One or two prior to the match, a selection will take place. As a large group of people will vote, it will remove the managers personal conflicts to the players, and be solely made on their performances. As it also has to depend on how they have been training, what form they're in, a group of "witnesses" are at the training ground watching the players.
This is nothing but a thought experiment and almost nothing has been thought through. A lot of this seems very unrealistic, but the blockchain could and will be used in the sports industry in the future. What do you think? If blockchain would be used in the sports industry, how do you think, and in what particular area do you think it would be used?

Maybe we can build a football club u-17, and compete to represent the country or city respectively.
