We all use some kind of aid in our lives. If our eyesight becomes poor, we have our eyes tested and we get glasses to wear to improve our eyesight. If our bodies need energy we drink energy drinks, if we need vitamins, we take vitamin supplements. If our food do not provide us with enough nutrients it is easy to just grab a handful of tablets and swallow. This improve our lives and make our lives better in every way. We cook less because we have less time and it is just easier to swallow a pill.
For the last twenty or so years, the use of steroids and supplements to improve sport activities have become very controversial. It should not be a surprise to anyone that professional athletes or even amateur athletes make use of steroids or other supplements to enhance their performance.
The use of these supplements or steroids helps them to achieve their goals faster and it takes less time to increase muscle strength as well as size and performance. The use of steroids even helps with recovery after an injury occurs, because we don't have time to let the natural healing process takes its time.
Everything in life is going faster, we don't have the time to improve ourselves naturally anymore. We are pushed for time in every aspect in our lives, and money is everything. A professional athlete cannot go for weeks without working out or they might lose their spot in the limelight. Isn't it sad that life have us all in a fast pace and no way to slow down. What is worse is that we are willing to expose ourselves to dangerous drugs so that we can live in the moment.
The use of steroids might improve your athletic skills, but on the long run, you will pay for it with your health. A lot of money cannot make anyone healthy. Steroids can cause liver damage, high blood pressure, depression, kidney problems and even cardiovascular problems. Steroids can even be linked to cancer and can cause unnatural external changes due to the amount of hormones in the drugs.
My opinion is that the use of steroids and supplements are cheating. In earlier years athletes had to rely on natural talent to prove themselves but these days there are so many supplements that helps with increase of muscles and strength to improve natural talent that it has become unnatural. The consequences or the after effects of these drugs can take its toll on athletes later in life and can even cause diminished organ function and shorten lives.
Is it really worth it to shorten your own life just for a little fame somewhere in your lifetime?
Just imagine for a minute if steroids were allowed in all sports? Would anyone have the opportunity to become a super athlete? Would it now be a race against who is taking the best steroid?
Life is way too much of a race. What happened to hard work? We all grew up with the saying that hard work pays off. Just because we are in such a race with time, does it mean that we should shorten our lives and become unnatural freaks of nature?
Agreed. People are very use to of steroids and other supplements which results in long term side effects.

I am almost 100% sure that all track an field and cycling athletes are on some steroids. Basically all athletes whose sport demand extreme endurance. Results that they are achieving are super human.
They have huge team around them and they are clean when competition start but in preparation time beside hard practices they use steroids. Not all steroids are same. Growth hormone is one of most popular steroids and some people over 50 years old use this to improve their body because if you are over 40 your body is slowing production of growth hormone.
What I want to say is that way how you use steroids is also important and if you use this without any professional advice, you can really damage your body, even die...

Great post. I totally agree that taking steroids is very short sighted and not worth it at all. People will do whatever it takes to win and for money these days. I also agree with you about time, it's interesting I feel that time can either work for you or against you. For ex. you can invest money over time and it will work in your favor, but if you borrow and spend a lot of money over time it won't work in your favor. Good post to keep us thinking! Cheers.

My favorite Muhammad Ali quote. It's so true. I've been competing in Jiu-jitsu and not once have I taken any type of drug as an aid. I believe if you work hard and build up a great team around you, then win or lose, you still win, because losing is only learning and learning is wining.

I think time will what keeps us alive. Maybe we just don't know how to use it properly.

Great post. I think the question of cheating at high levels of athleticism is always a tricky one. On one side, you have these athletes willing to do anything to be the best, and this comes from their competitive nature. This often comes at a price indeed, most usually on their health.
I think the Lance Armstrong case is amongst one of the most interesting to look at. Armstrong cheated throughout his career to obtain 7 Tour De France titles. That is disgraceful cheating, not to mention the alleged pressure he put on his team. But at the same time, he was seen as a man who survived cancer and raised huge amounts of money for cancer research.
I'm not trying to defend the use of steroids at all. But I want to show that every person has a unique upbringing that conditions and rationalises many of their choices, regardless of whether others share similar views or experiences.
Great post :)

The problem was born when the first one started to use steroids.
This ended with the need of steroids for all his competitors.
So, if all of them take is the same as if nobody takes.
