Fantastic Lions victory over New Zealand but they must start cutting out the penalties!

Well I knew it was going to be tough and it was more in hope than expectation that I thought the British and Irish Lions would get there win!

I’d previously said how important it was for the Lions to keep their discipline and not give away silly penalties. They ended up giving away 13 penalties and having one of their players Vunipola sin binned! Ok so what do I know! But in all seriousness they will need to work harder on not giving away these penalties. There was only a 3 point difference in the end and the New Zealand fly-half Beauden Barrett had the opportunity to give his side a clear lead if he’d converted all his chances with the boot.

In the 25th minute Sonny Bill Williams was sent off for a nasty shoulder charge to Anthony Watson’s face. This may have proved the key factor in the end for the Lions. But there was no doubting the Lions commitment as they were able to dig deep and come from behind and take the match!

They now level the series 1-1 and the decider will be back at Eden Park stadium! And what a mouth-watering decider match we have set up! I was really hoping it would go to a decider just at the very least for the chance of a historic match! If the Lions do win at Eden Park next Saturday then it will be the first time a Lions side has beaten the All Blacks in New Zealand for 46 years!

When team plays without 1 player it sure is a handicap. But that is some of the reasons why sports are unpredictable and more interesting.

Yeh the surprising thing was the Lions actually conceded more points once the All Blacks had a man sent off. A lot is down to the psychology of it all.
