NFL Draft - Australian Giant Jordan Mailata drafted by Philly

in sport •  7 years ago

Aussie Jordan Mailata grew up in Sydney's West dreaming of being a star in the National Rugby League he played in the Under 20s comp for the South Sydney Rabbitohs but his size was so pronounced he was almost too big to play a game which is full of very very large humans. At 6 foot 8 and 157Kgs Mailata is an imposing figure and that is why the NFL came knocking one day.

What makes Mailatas story even more remarkable is that when the Philladelphia Eagles took him late in the draft they did so after never seeing him take a snap in a game situation in American football, yes thats right he has never played a single snap of American football and by being taken in the draft is guaranteed around 600k a year.

The jury is still out as to whether or not Jordan can make the transfer to an NFL player, Philly have selected him with the plan in mind to play him as an offensive tackle which is one of the most important position on the field, primary objective of the position is essentially to protect the Quarterback and if you cant do that your days are numbered. It might be as many as two years on the practice squad before this man mountain gets his shot at the NFL and he may never even make it that far but everyone in Australia is hoping he makes it to the top.
