World Cup in jumping in Lahti: Kamil Stoch smashes rivals and joins the elite group

Kamil Stoch won the World Cup competition in Lahti in a beautiful style. Markus Eisenbichler was second and Stefan Kraft third. The fourth was Dawid Kubacki. Stoch joined a narrow group of jumpers who in the 21st century after the gold medal at a great event won the World Cup competition.

Through the qualification for the competition, six Polish people passed without any problems: Kamil Stoch, Jakub Wolny, Maciej Kot, Piotr Żyła, Stefan Hula and Dawid Kubacki. Especially Stoch and Kubacki present a high form in Lahti. "Mustaf" took second place in qualifying and fourth in the test series, and the jumper from Ząb was the best in qualifying, individually in the team competition and in the trial series before the Sunday competition.

Jakub Wolny in the first round jumped 117 meters and without any problems secured himself a promotion to the second. He was placed on the 25th position. Maciej Kot jumped even better - 124.5 meters gave him the 13th position. Piotr Żyła landed exactly in the same place and he was 14th - he lost with the cat by 1.1 points. Stefan Hula flew two meters closer and took 17th place.

124 meters reached Dawid Kubacki and finished the first round in the sixth position. Kamil Stoch led the jump on the 132th meter, the second was Ryoyu Kobayashi, who jumped 129.5 meters, and Andreas Stjernen took third place, which reached 124 meters.

Jakub Wolny improved in the second round than in the first - he flew 120 meters and finished 26th. Stefan Hula also landed further - 123 meters gave him the 17th position. Piotr Żyła fought for distance and finally reached 122.5 meters. He was 16th and overtook Hula by 0.2 points.

Maciej Kot flew 125 meters in the second attempt and finished the competition on the 14th place. Dawid Kubacki did even better. He sailed for a distance of 127.5 meters and eventually finished fourth.

The defeated Kamil Stoch, who jumped 134 meters in the second round. Markus Eisenbichler took second place, jumping after a jump on the distance of 129.5 meters from seventh position, and third - Stefan Kraft. The Austrian jumped 128.5 meters, and in the first series he was fifth.

Kamil Stoch, thanks to the victory at Lahti, joined the elite group of three jumpers, who in the 21st century after winning the competition during the great event (World Championships or Olympic Games) won the next individual WC competition. Earlier, Adam Malysz made this play in 2003 and 2007, Simon Ammann in 2010 and Stefan Kraft in 2017.

Next week, competitors will compete in Oslo. Similarly to Lahti, the qualification will take place on Friday, team competition will take place on Saturday, and individual competition on Sunday.
