Not only is stand up paddleboarding lots of fun, but it is also great exercise for health!

Where did stand up paddleboarding get going?

The introductory stand up paddleboards were essentially long, low profile canoes. Hawaiians utilized them for transport and fishing. Several historians point to the Hawaiian surfing community of the 1930s as the original SUP existence as a leisure pursuit, with stand up paddling as a sport not developing a real international presence till as fairly recently as 2005.

Is stand up paddling a beneficial physical activity?

Stand up paddleboarding is very good for your cardiovascular system, your shape and your entire body. While you stand on land you burn between 150 and 175 calories per hour. The act of balancing on your board means that basically standing on your SUP will consume around 250 calories per hour. The more than that you paddle, the higher that number goes. Downwind and surf paddlers can torch as many as 800 or 1,000 calories per hour. In fact, just cruising along at an easygoing clip on flat water will burn 400 or 500 calories per hour or higher.

Exactly where can I paddle a SUP?

Since I live in Panama, I have access to 2 oceans fairly close by, the Pacific and the Carribean. Both are great.
