Arsenal announced it has completed the transfer of defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund with long-term contract ties.
The Gunners carry it at a cost in the range of € 19 million. The Greek international was second to Arsenal from Dortmund after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 29-year-old has the same agent as Konstantinos Mavropanos compatriot, another player brought in by Arsenal's new chief envoy Sven Mislintat.
Mislintat maintained close ties with senior figures in Dortmund, where he became head of their scout team for more than a decade and played a key role in recruiting Mavropanos, Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January.
Thus, Sokratis became the third recruit since Unai Emery served as head coach, after the arrival of Stephan Lichtsteiner of Juventus for free and Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.
However, it is known that Mislintat has held a series of Sokratis transfer talks before Emery is appointed to replace Arsene Wenger.
The North London club also reportedly almost landed Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, but they have not been able to finish recruiting before the Uruguayan international finishes his stint at the 2018 World Cup.
