Sambo is for the moment not enough famous even if the popularity of the free fight and the celibrity Oleg Taktarov and more recently Fedor Emelianenko. It's still not enough! To much people don't know this amazing sport!
The first video i select for you is a quick overview of what is the sambo in a competition.

The word "SAMBO" is an acronym for SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya, which literally translates as "self-defense without weapons". Sambo is relatively modern since its development began in the early 1920s by the Soviet Red Army to improve their hand-to-hand combat abilities. It was intended to be a merger of the most effective techniques of other martial arts.
The pioneers of Sambo were Viktor Spiridonov and Vasili Oshchepkov. Oshchepkov died in prison as a result of the Great Purge after being accused of being a Japanese spy. Oshchepkov spent several years living in Japan and training in judo under its founder Jigoro Kano."

With this two different style of fighting integrated in the sambo competition you really can learn how to be a complete fighter like in mixed martial arts. But you will also naturally specialise yourself in one of this two disciplines, cause everybody have a preference right?
Personally i trained sambo when i was young and i have been Swiss champion in combat sambo -65 kilo in 2014.
I found it really efficient especially for really know how to fight and not just pretending or fighting the wind.
Sambo is not made to kill but to defend yourself, because even if it's like a real fight you are not allowed to kill your opponent, especially you have to don't go to much with the strength to let your training partner a possibility to do the saim. If you fight with your strength you will have more chance to hurt yourself and your partner. The technique is the key.
The perfect sambo lesson or any kind of serious fighter training can be :
- Warming up + stretching (10%)
- Specific physical exercises (10%)
- Technical training(30%)
- Training fight (30%)
- Additional physical exercises(10%)
- Exercises to increase flexibility(10%)
