Ending racism with sports?

If you really want to start to end racism, put more people on the football field, or the baseball field, possibly the soccer field.

One of my best friends made fun of sports as being a sort of religion. He was right. But, it goes deeper. I've played football. Really, you become a family.

I played on the offensive line. Our top running back was black. Who the fuck cares? He's our running back. I'll put my body on the line to protect him. No, I'm not color blind. I'm aware that he was black. It just didn't matter. I simply didn't care.

Sports are how we get people to reach across race in the most expeditious way. My nephew loves Larry Fitzgerald. I bought him a Tremain Edmunds jersey. He loves football and the race of the players who he loves seems to be irrelevant.

Isn't that what we should be gunning for? We're never going to be "color blind." What we can be are people who see differences in skin color and not give a flying fuck about it.
