Manchester United retains their position as the highest-income football club in the world. MU again beat Real Madrid club from Spain with a thin margin.
The English Premier League topped the Deloitte Football Money League for the 10th time by posting revenues for the 2016-2017 season worth 676.3 million euros ($ 827.25 million), 1.7 million euros higher than European champions, namely Real Madrid.
Barcelona FC club is in third position with a value of 648.3 million euros.
The combined revenue for the top 20 clubs with the highest revenue rose 6% to a record high of 7.9 billion euros.
The top 20 are made up of 10 English clubs, boosted by the fact that 2016-2017 is the first season of the Premier League's current broadcasting rights deal.
The remaining 10 clubs are made up of three from Spain, three from Germany, three from Italy and one from France. AC Milan's seven-time European champions have to get out of the top 20 for the first time.
The 44.5 million euros that United received from UEFA for their victory against Ajax Amsterdam in the 2017 Europa League final was crucial in maintaining their number one status.
And Jones, partner at Sports Business Group in Deloitte, said: "United's ability to hold on to first place is more impressive than a weaker pound against the euro and with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona predicting further revenue growth in 2017-2018, down to field performance again next year. "
"With three clubs that reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions, simply put, the club that goes the furthest in this competition will have the best chance of getting the highest position in the Money League next year," Jones said.
Big mover includes former Premier League champions Leicester City, who climbed from 20th place last year to 14th place, and Southampton, who entered the top 20 for the first time in 18th place. The position of both boosted when playing in European competition last season.
Elsewhere, Inter Milan climbed four places to 15th place thanks to ad revenue growth, following their club takeover by Chinese company Suning Holdings Group. image
