Match Review: Arsenal FC vs Bayern Munich (1-1 FT, 3-2 pens)

in sport •  7 years ago

Arsenal finally get their revenge on the German giants, after suffering phenomenal 10-2 loss on aggregate last season, which saw the Gunners exit the UEFA Champions League. Although it may be a pre-season friendly, the spirits were definitely lifted amongst the fans over in Shangai and all over the world.

A controversial penalty decision in the 8th minute gave Bayern Munich the lead, after Robert Lewandowski sent Petr Cech the wrong way to fire home. Arsenal had a few good chances, including a one-on-one when club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette had his effort saved by Tom Starke.

However, Bayern Munich dominated the game and could have extended their lead if it wasn't for the brilliance of Petr Cech.

21-year old Alex Iwobi, a second-half substitute, clenched a late equaliser in the 94th minute which saw the game go into an exhilarating penalty-shootout. Nacho Monreal, goal-scorer Iwobi and Aaron Ramsey were all on target for the North London club, whilst Emiliano Martinez's save against Juan Bernat ensured the win and saw the club lift the trophy.
