Part 2 of my first snowboarding film 'Amateur Hour'.
Hello my Steemit tribe! I am so excited to show you guys part 2 of my first Snowboarding project. I got so much positive feedback and constructive criticism on Part 1, I knew I wanted to get part 2 ready. I've created so much content this past winter season as an action photographer and amateur filmmaker, that I've committed my self to really start posting this content to Steeemit with a new found urgency.
Thank you all for the love and support given to my last post here. I hop you enjoy installment 2 of Amateur Hour. This project was filmed with my good friend Kevin Gerard, who is one of the most interesting people I've met, and I got a chance to really get to know him and document his story in other ways that his snowboarding career.
Kevin Gerard
As a young man, this fine country of mine (USA), decided to handle young energetic, or what my society would dub as ADHD, Kevin, in a horrendous way. He was a bright, smart, curious, kid who didn't fit into the mold. The mold that wanted him to be a worker will no self or personal Identity. Like most kids like him the machine of the education system, was ruthless. He was medicated with a dozen or so psychiatric medications from the time he was a boy to recent times. He was in and out of centers for 'problemed' youth, which he had no place in being. He is one of the kindest, loving, generous, open armed people I've ever met. Kevin is not the first young person I've met with a similar story. This story is rampant throughout the western world.
This video series is a testament to him. Kevin fearlessly follows his passion of snowboarding, with a dedication I've never seen. He is defiantly standing up for himself despite what the people in his life tell him. Like me he wants to bring awareness to mental health, pharmaceuticals, the education system and the way we handle the youth of our society.
Part 2
So with out further ado enjoy Amateur hour: Pt 2.
Behind the Scenes
Here are some extra screenshots and photos take during our adventures. Kevin and I spent countless days traipsing throughout the Uinta Mountain range in northern Utah finding features and cliffs for Kevin to launch his meat wagon off of. Debating what was ride-able and what was avalanche hazard. Luckily Kevin always had a shovel, beacon and snow probe with him in case of an avalanche emergency. Although we decided we weren't going to attempt anything we though was a danger zone.
The Photo above was taken after a 4 1/2 hour hike.
This Photo was taken with my GoPro while I was out on a Solo journey gathering B-roll footage for the project.
This was the shot I was hunting for.
Me getting trapped in waste deep snow!
This was Kevin walking around scoping a cliff he was thinking about dropping off of.
This is Kevin Launching off said cliff.
Many of the areas In the Uinta Mountains are snowshoe access only, depending on when you go. This is Kevin with Snowshoes slugging through snow that was at least knee deep without snowshoes.
Here is Kevin posing for me. We were gathering some of the B-roll footage you see in the intro to the video. This was taken in his storage unit as this is where Kevin stores most of his stuff. He is Currently living out of his car in order to save money and have more time and freedom to go wherever Snowboarding takes him. As an aspiring professional Snowboarder he needs to be able to drive anywhere for competitions or follow a storm pattern for some fresh powder!
During one of our trips to the back-country we had to find our way over a little creek. Luckily we found a spot where the snow had piled up enough to support our wight and we walked across the 'snow-bridge hoping it wouldn't collapse'.
This photo encapsulated who Kevin is.
This picture was taken after Kevin had almost accidentally buried me in snow. I had taken off my board and posted myself up with 2 different cameras. I had asked Kevin to stop about 50 feet above me while I prepared a shot. I was having Kevin do some turns through some trees heading my direction. We were literally boarding through at least 3 feet of super light powder. But the scary part was it was at a very steep angle. This area was close to the peak and was a no fall zone under any other circumstances. You see Kevin here where he stopped in front of me but managed to throw a shit load of power on top of my little video dugout. He look badass so I had to snap a pic.
A nice picture of our mutual friend Cody, popping over some boulders.
And one more of Kevin launching his meat wagon off of a jump far too big for me.
Thank you tribe!!!
Well that's it you guys! I hope this takes off like part one, but that's not really the point for me. I'm just glad to be getting this content out and feeling like its ACTUALLY reaching people. As always I'd love to hear what you think and what your thoughts are. I really want to gather fellow action sport athletes and filmmakers here on Steemit so we can connect and contribute to Steemit in our own crazy way.
All the love, Arqetype

Another great edit! Your eye for what you are trying to capture is great and our team really enjoyed the flow of the edit. It was really fun as a general edit, but as you keep making edits you may want to consider focusing more on either park or backcountry riding. One thought is if you are incorporating both styles to maybe include a title, an establishing shot of the resort or zone you are in, or even just a dip to black to break up the viewer's expectations of what you are about to ride. Also if you can manage it split board. Some of our team snowboards and getting a split board was the single best thing that helped them excel and increase the amount and breadth of terrain that they could ride in a day. This will probably really help to allow you to get more footage in a day in more photogenic terrain plus reduce the amount of fatigue you will experience out there. Loved the POV powder laps too. it is always a bonus to watch riders plow through some untracked freshies. The stills you pulled are excellent by the way and they show some really great shot angles. We are all really looking forward to the next film and we would also love to hear some more story sprinkled in even if it is just a couch interview or a quick interview while you are out there like you opened with. The best part about adventure films is hearing from the adventurer what their experience was. Thanks for the shout out! If you can make it out to California let us know it would be great to go ride some backcountry with you and show you some of our favorite spots in Lake Tahoe.
