The early history
Arsenal from North London as we know them today, wasen't in fact Arsenal from North London in the beginning. In the beginning Arsenal was called The Arsenal, before Woolwich Arsenal, before that Royal Arsenal, and even before that, Dial Square. Dial Square was formed by the workers in Woolwich in South London, South East London to be precise. In South East London workers from Woolwich formed a now world famous club on the first of december 1886. Already a month later they changed the name of the club to Royal Arsenal. Royal Arsenal won their first trophies in 1890 and 1891. When they got ascended to the second division Arsenal renamed themselfes again from Royal Arsenal to Woolwich Arsenal. Woolwich Arsenal promoted to the top tier in 1904. But due to falling attendences because of the creation of clubs closer to Central London Woolwich Arsenal went bankruptcy in 1910. Two business men bought the club and moved it to North London. These two business men, Henry Norris, and William Hall saved the club and helping it becoming what it is today. In 1913 soon after relegation to the second best league Woolwich Arsenal moved to Highbury. The following year Woolwich Arsenal changed their name once again to The Arsenal.
In 1919 Arsenal got promoted to the newly enlarged First Division after a voting. The voting was done by The Football League, and the voting was between The Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. The rivalry go way back, and we won ;)
