2017 NFL Free-For-All Contest: Broncos at Colts

ATS-TFFA_2017.jpg

This week’s Free-For-All is a Battle of the Disappointments.

For the third FFA contest this season, we have a match-up between two of the NFL’s teams that have had utterly disappointing seasons. But before we get to the preview of that game, let’s have a look at the previous contest results.

In the last contest for the Washington Redskins at the Dallas Cowboys, which the Cowboys won 38 - 14, we had four winners for the five statistical categories and a pot of 18 SBD. The pot is split evenly between the five categories, giving us a total of 3.60 SBD per winner. Here are the winners from the last game (actual game results in parentheses).

Perine Rushing Yards: @joeandrew97, 37 (38)
Redskins Defense, Yards Allowed: @t23hd, 270 (275)
Prescott Pass Yards: @paul.atreides, 109 (102)
Bryant Receiving Yards: @remedium, 62 yards (61)
Total Combined Points: @joeandrew97, 52 (52)

Three categories went to the tiebreaker, which goes to the first chronological submission.

Perine Rush Yards: @joeandrew97 (37) and @thewidowmaker (39)
Bryant Receiving Yards: @remedium (62) and @t23hd (62)
Total Combined Points: @joeandrew97 (52) and @starline (52)

Congratulations to all of the winners! Payouts have been sent and you can verify the transactions in my Steem wallet.

Denver Broncos vs. Indianapolis Colts

Thursday, December 14th at 8:25pm ET

Lucas Oil Stadium – Indianapolis, Indiana

Two teams that have had disappointing seasons in 2017 will face off for this week’s Thursday night NFL game. The Broncos (4-9, last place in the AFC West) head to Indianapolis to face-off against the Colts (3-10, last place in the AFC South). Both teams are struggling to score points with quarterback play that has been far less than stellar this year.

The Denver Broncos quarterback, Trevor Siemian, has been unable to play consistently. His turnover issues resulted in him being benched after a week-eight loss against division rival Kansas City, where he threw three interceptions. He returned as a starter after Paxton Lynch went down with an ankle injury. Siemian’s performance last week was relatively good – he didn’t throw any interceptions and completed a respectable 61% of his passes for the game. He’ll be looking to build on that this week against an awful Colts defense that’s ranked 30th in the league.

The Broncos defense has played well, as usual. They shouldn’t have a tough time against the anemic Colts offense, but they’ll need help from their own offense to get the win, which would just be for morale at this point. They won’t be making the playoffs this year, after being officially eliminated last week.

As for the Colts...what can be said? Without Andrew Luck at quarterback, they’ve looked terrible on offense and are ranked 31st in the league, averaging less than 187 passing yards per game. Last season, Luck averaged 265 yards per game at quarterback.

Current quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s numbers aren’t terrible, but the Colts have had trouble scoring points, averaging just 16 points per game this season. Brissett has had some really good games against Houston and Cleveland this year, but the Broncos defense can be suffocating at times and is still one of the best in the league, if not the best. Indianapolis will need to get Frank Gore going early if they want any chance of putting pressure on the Denver defense and taking pressure off of Brissett, which won’t be likely to happen.

Despite their disappointing record, this may turn out to be a fairly easy win for the Broncos.

Free-For-All Contest

Statistical Categories for the Thursday Free-For-All

There will be five statistical categories for the game, listed below. I have provided averages from the current season. Some numbers have been rounded for game accuracy. (Statistics with decimal places can have game results with decimal places.)

1. Broncos RB, CJ Anderson, Rush Yards: Season average per game is 54.

2. Broncos WR, Demaryius Thomas, Receiving Yards: Season average per game is 59.

3. Colts QB, Jacoby Brissett, Passing Yards: Season average per game is 218.

4. Colts Defense, Pass Yards Allowed: Season average per game is 258.

5. Total Combined Kick Return Yards: Combined Season average per game is 93.

How to Play and Win

  1. In a comment on this post, submit your predicted results for the five statistical categories in the order that they appear above. You can number your selections (1–5) as they are above or not, but if not, I will assume that they are in the correct order and the results will be checked in that order. ONLY ONE COMMENT SUBMISSION PER USER, PER CONTEST. The use of multiple accounts will result in disqualification and permanent blacklisting for all future contests.

  2. The deadline for submission is the scheduled game time. Any submissions or edits to submissions after the deadline will result in disqualification from the contest. Make sure that you have accurately submitted your numbers before the deadline.

  3. There will be one winner for each statistic. The winner will be the contestant closest to the final statistic from the game. In the case of a tie, the contestant who entered their selections first will be the winner. There is no limit to the number of categories that you can win. Contestants can potentially win one or all of the categories.

  4. The contest is funded with a minimum pot of 10 SBD. The SBD will be distributed evenly between all five categories. The pool will consist of 75% of the SBD payout for this post. The remaining 25% will be dedicated to my sports development fund.
