Seppe Odeyn did not meet a lot of opposition for his fist international victory this season. The Flandrien won the long distance duathlon in Can Picafort. Seppe impressed on the bike and took the win in 2hr34'37.

He ended up two minutes faster than home athlete Miguel Angel. Finnish Jarmo Rissanen was surprisingly third in 2hr36'48. Favorite Soren Bustrup ended in sixth. The Danish multiple WC medalist had to allow British Ben Price and Norwegian Erlend Skippervik in front of him. After the first run, Seppe had a 20 second gap to bridge on Miguel Angel and Danish Kasper Laumann. On the 60km bike he took the initiative and was joined by Rissanen. The Fin appeared to be no threat during the closing 9km run.

Kim Nulens started off strong in the women race. She tailed later victor Miriam Van Reijen and passed transition with a 15 second gap. On the bike however, she lost 7 minutes. The Dutch Miriam is trained by Stefaan Devliegher, who coaches Seppe Odeyn as well. Van Reijen took a convincing win in 2hr55'53, the only woman to stay in the 3hr. British Dione Allen came second more than 5 minutes later, Spanish Carolina Sitges completed the podium in 3hr02'02. Ex-national champion Kim finished 7th in 3hr05'51, not far behind multiple world Champion Ulrike Schwalbe, who came 5th.

The Belgian agegroupers did good as well. Wout Daniels (on the start picture right next to Seppe Odeyn) came 7th overall, giving him the M20 win. Jan Cappaert had a lot to deal with arriving in Mallorca earlier this week. His bike frame was torn in transport so he had to find a replacement last minute. His new bike granted him a victory: 62th overall and the M55 win in 3hr13'05.
