Lakers rookie Josh Hart before Villanova's title game: 'I'm literally shaking, I'm so nervous'
SAN ANTONIO — Lakers rookie Josh Hart has been on this stage before. In 2016, the former Villanova guard helped lead the Wildcats to their thrilling last-second win over North Carolina in the National Championship Game.
He wasn’t going to miss Villanova’s chance at a second title in three seasons.
With the Lakers off Monday night, Hart made his way to San Antonio on a private jet and landed in San Antonio less than an hour before tipoff. But no, Villanova’s historic shooting performance in Saturday night’s win against Kansas didn’t have him feeling overconfident with Michigan.
“I’m so nervous,” Hart said. “I’m literally shaking, I’m so nervous. It’s amazing to be down here to be down here and see these guys play.”
It was the same feeling he had before that classic championship game in 2016.
“It brings back a lot of memories,” Hart said. “A lot of memories. Hopefully these guys will make some memories of their own.
“I told them to buy in. These are your brothers, and you can’t take it for granted because this is the last time these guys will ever play together. Buy in. Be there now. And play for each other.”
Don’t expect any early trash talk on Twitter either — referring to Kris Jenkins’ tweets from Saturday night’s win.
Josh Hart needs a ride to the NCAA tournament championship game
Does anyone have a private jet they can offer Josh Hart within the next few hours? It’s pretty urgent!
Ahead of Villanova’ second NCAA tournament championship game in three years, Hart took to Twitter to see if he could catch a ride—er, flight—with someone to see his alma mater in action. Preferably someone with a private jet.
Hart won the NCAA tournament with the Wildcats in 2016, almost exactly two years ago, and was a student at Villanova last year, so it makes sense why he would want to be there. But with each passing hour, it’s looking less likely he will be at the big game.
