MVP Front-Runner Carson Wentz Tears ACL

Late in the third-quarter of the Philadelphia Eagles' win over the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback and MVP front-runner Carson Wentz dove into the endzone for a touchdown that was later negated by a holding call. Wetz's legs got sandwiched between two defenders, but stayed in the game to finish out the drive with a touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery.

Philadelphia would go on to with the hotly contested matchup with the Rams and clinch the NFC East, but the story line coming out of the game was whether Wentz would miss significant time. The worst fears for Eagles fans were realized when multiple reports came out of the Eagles organization that an MRI on Wentz's knee confirmed a tear.

Quarterback Nick Foles came in to finish out the game for Philadelphia and had a clutch throw to Nelson Agholor on third-down late in the fourth quarter to preserve the Eagles victory, but there is a reason Wentz had been the front-runner for MVP this year.

Wentz's ability to escape pressure and convert on third-down will be sorely missed as Nick Foles, while capable as a passer, is not in the same category as Carson Wentz. The Eagles lead the league in 3rd-and-6-or-more conversions and that is entirely due to Wentz's ability to make something out of nothing.

This is a huge blow for the Eagles who currently lead the NFC. We'll have to wait and see if Foles can carry this offense.

Worst of all, Wentz is on my fantasy team and has been my leading scorer all year. With the semi-finals coming up next week, this is by far the worst time for my leading scorer to go down!

Such a big blow to my fantasy team! He got me by this week but without Wentz, Im deff a second round exit...more importantly, there goes the Eagles season! IMO Wentz should be MVP, no one projected him or his team to over achieve the way they did

Same here in terms of fantasy implications.

I honestly think the next couple of weeks will determine if Wentz should win MVP. If Foles achieves close to what Wentz did, then clearly it's a system thing. If the Eagles are stagnant on offense then Wentz deserves it. I doubt Wentz can win MVP since he'll be missing multiple games. Same issue Brady had last year.

Yeah the key difference was Pats went 3/4 without Brady last year which was very impressive! I would consider Antonio Brown for MVP, he’s been playing out of this world (or maybe that’s my bias since he was my first overall pick haha)

I also think this shows Rodgers and Lucks intrinsic value (how their teams are complete garbage without them)

Completely agree. Rodgers and Luck are so important to their teams that it's crazy. Brown should probably be in the discussion anyway and I also think Gurley should be getting some looks as well.

Thanks for sharing- this is a terrible blow for the Eagles. They were Super Bowl favorites in my mind, as they dominated against strong teams all year, even beating the fantastic Rams yesterday. However, I do still have hope in the Eagles as Nick Foles has showed he's a capable quarterback. Nonetheless, I do not think they'll make the Super Bowl now.

Yea the NFC playoffs are going to be a bloodbath. I don't think the Eagles are completely done as Foles is definitely a competent QB, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see a big drop off in the offense since Wentz extended so many plays and kept so many drives alive.

It's really a loss for the entire NFL. He was playing so well and the Eagles were possibly the best team in the NFL. As for Fantasy, it may be time to hold your nose and start Nick Foles!

Yea I may have to. Waiver wire in my league is desolate so Foles might be my next best option.
