Does anyone else miss old fashioned Boxing? MMA doesn’t do it for me. 😏

I know the question has been asked 1000’s of times.....which sport is better Boxing or MMA Cage Fighting? I gotta be honest, I’m not really a fan of MMA although I can appreciate how well trained the fighters are in several different types of attack and defense strategies. Personally I really miss the days of heavyweight boxing because I grew up during a time when boxing was not only supper popular but the heavyweight division was full of great boxers and lots of drama which made for fantastic prize fights.

Mike Tyson won the heavyweight division when he was only 20 yrs old and anyone who watched his career remembers how dominant he was. Check out this video of Tyson when he was about 16-17 years old before he was a professional fighter. What a physical specimen this kid was! An absolute vicious tiger in the ring, it was fitting that later in his boxing career he actually owned tigers as pets in his house! Interesting man for sure.

How could you not like boxing in the 80’s and 90’s? Not only were the real life boxing matches epic but, the Rocky movies were in full swing adding Ivan Drago, Clubber Lane, Appolo Creed and Rocky Balboa to the hype. Then you sprinkle in a little 40 yr old George Forman, The Butterbean and Tommy Gun.....well you have a great chance to have mega fights on the reg and the best part was the fact that before Tyson, the fights were on local television for free! Times sure have changed because the only fight you get to watch for free now are the ones going on downtown Saturday night at about 2am when the bars close.

To think that at one time this guy was able to get paid to get into the ring with world class boxers is so funny. The Butterbean looks like a guy that won’t last long but during the height of his career he was a great puncher and held his own in the ring with some great fighters. I sure wish the old days of boxing would come back.

I feel like boxing is missing a bit the big names like Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield etc

Like you said the 80s,90s where a real golden time for boxing especially heavyweight.

I like MMA quite a lot though and it took it shares from the boxing world.

Bearknuckelboxing is on a small rise though maybe you can enjoy this more than MMA

I am also not a fan of MMA.
Boxing is a pure sport, if somebody doesn’t bite in the ear of the opponent!
K1 I also liked to see! Maybe even more than boxing!
Cheers,
Peter

Excellent review @broncnutz and I also miss the old classic boxing, because then the athletes were more realistic in their desire to win!

Boxing is a sport and martial arts featuring two participants with ... the british champion, who was also the first to use boxing gloves.

I've always liked boxing from other types of sports, plus heavyweight boxing

very nice if there is a heavy boxing arena

Watching an old BOXING that's the kind of greaf thing which we missed as a new generation people.

Boxing nowadays is not so appealing as it was in the past and there aren't anymore big players out there. I loved Maywheather and I liked his style, but not that he is retired don't know to whom I should turn. Any favorites out there?

Agreed. The "octagon" while cool, pales in comparison to the "squared circle".
