And what a week it has been.

Welcome to all the BRO Sports™ subscribers.

Most of the time, people pay attention to the events affecting the top of the table. Whether it's the title chase, or the fight for that last Champion's League spot. But I have always found that the relegation fight is often a lot more intense. Having supported a club that has been relegated a couple of times, I know just how much is at stake at this time of the season.

So over the past few weeks I've been blogging about the relegation fight underway in the English premier league, using some (admittedly) basic analytics to try and predict the outcome.

Now that I'm writing for the BRO Sports™ Network, I've moved this blog to be a regular feature here. If you're interested in the methodology I've used for this prediction, you can find it on my original post.

So onto the week's events....

Once again, it was quite a week for relegation candidates. A few 6-point matches with teams fighting for relegation meeting each other:

Newcastle managed to get one over Southampton. Being a Newcastle fan - I watched this - and in truth, Southampton were quite poor. The early goal for Newcastle no doubt played on the minds of both clubs and the result ended up being a formality.

Everton returned to form with a good home win over Brighton. As I've previously mentioned, I only started tracking Everton last week as their form was horrid and they were slipping further and further down the table. At this stage, both of these clubs look pretty safe.

Huddersfield and Swansea played the typical boring 0-0 draw. Swansea picking up a very handy point building on their big win last week.

West Brom were unlucky against Leicester - After taking the lead, a bit of Vardy magic that would have ruined any club in the league saw the game turn.

West Ham absolutely imploded. I still think they'll be safe, but the way things looked here I wouldn't be suprised if they slip right into trouble.

Crystal Palace unlucky again - They have a very tough draw and facing Chelsea at the Bridge was always going to be a tough ask.

Watford were disappointing against Arsenal, playing them back into form.
Bournemouth outclassed at home against Tottenham.

Stoke outclassed against Manchester City as expected.

As we can see, the predicted finish is really starting to shape out now – not looking quite as close as it was looking a few weeks ago.

West Brom is pretty much gone.
Crystal Palace are certainly in trouble and not far off being down and out.
Southampton, Stoke, and West Ham are now looking most likely for that last relegation spot.

Everton and Watford are all but safe, with Brighton not far behind.

Next week 6-pointers:

Bournemouth vs West Brom
Huddersfield vs Crystal Palace
Stoke vs Everton

Did you observe that all promoted teams could avoid relegation? I don't know the last time that happened. It would be nice .

As of right now seems like the battle out of the relegation zone is the only thing of importance. City have won the league. The top 4 are practically set besides maybe Tottenham, Liverpool, and chelsea for the top 4 sports.

I guess besides that the other teams will be focusing on other competitions. Hoping Arsenal can go far in Europa!! Otherwise they may not be playing on the european stage next year.
