My only comment on the draft is that I am glad the Detroit Lions used the second pick of the draft to select Michigan’s Aiden Hutchinson. Not because I am happy for the fans who’ll get to root for him on their hometown team, but because (and I realize this is not a noble sentiment) that skunkbear will have to play on the perennially worst team in the league. I am still bitter that buckeye legend Chris Spielman had to waste his stellar career playing for Detroit.
Spielman was a two-time All-American at Ohio State, intercepted 11 passes, and won the Lombardi Award as the best college football lineman or linebacker. He racked up a record 29 tackles against Meatchicken in a loss in 1986 and in 1987 was the Ohio State football team MVP his senior year and helped carry coach Earl Bruce off the field after the comeback win at the Outhouse five days after it was announced that Bruce had been fired.
I was there, stormed the field like most of the buckeyes in the stadium, slapped Spielman’s shoulder pad and touched Earl’s leg as they carried him off the field. I too was carried off the field, not by happy fans but by a security guard who saw me charging a member of the Ohio State marching band (tbdbitl) who was a friend from high school. The guard perfectly intercepted my impending hug and spiked me just beyond the southern endzone. That’s what I get for clowning around.
